Has your gas and electricity increased in price much?

Mine nearly trembled from hat was the the sane month last yearthough this time last year I was on a fixed tariff but currently on variable. And I don't use anywhere near as much I used last year. Hod knows what would be if I did. |

More by luck than judgement I was already on a fixed rate until next July, so with the allowance, mine has more than halved! Not looking forward to July. That might sting a bit... |

Bills included in my rent fortunately. I did offer to pay my landlady a bit more when costs increased but she wouldn't have it.
So it's not affected me thankfully

Om another note I pay for my gas and electric with cards which I top up with in the shop when needed. I don't know anyone else who does this.
someone said it would be cheaper if I did it some other way, like direct debit or something. |

I've been putting my heating on for around 3 hours a day and it's nearly double what it was this time last year.
Last year it was on around 8 hours a day. |

When you pay by dd its the annual cost divided into 12 equal payments |

"It's surprising the difference between households. Some say there's no increase and others have gone through the roof.
"
I don't understand that to be honest. How can it stay the same unless in fixed. On average it has more than doubled for more people |

We are paying exactly the same for electric as we did this time last year. Our gas has probably gone up by about 6 pounds a week and we are using it in the same way we did last year. We are pay as you go. |

We are also told regularly our pay as you go metres are more expensive but to be honest we seem to be paying less than most people on DD. |

"Hasnt been very cold so far so actually not much difference yet, plus the Govt money takes a bit off each month. "
We still have £43 on the gas from last months £66. We haven't topped up for 2 months. |

The only gas usage we have in our house is the combi boiler/central heating, other than that, we're all electric, but we have sixteen solar panels on the rear roof that we've had since 2017, so thankfully we've not really noticed any difference.....so far!! But like others who've posted on this thread, we're well aware that the price of food has sky rocketed, even in the supposedly cheaper outlets like Aldi and Lidl's? When's it going to end..... |

We used to pay around £80 per month for gas and electric on a dual fuel bill. It's just gone up to £266 and we reckon we've cut back as much as we can. God knows what it will be next year when it goes uo agsin! |

That sounds more realistic. I don't understand any of the comments that's their bills not gone up or very little unless they are on fixed tariff. |

No we could chose so put it all on the gas or we could split it. |

Well I don't know what to tell you but are definitely hasn't and we're not on a fixed rate. I've seen loads of comments on other social media platforms of people saying the same as us it just seems not everyone is as affected. |

Those of you seeing a huge increase in your bills are you one direct debits? It could just be the company who has put your direct debit up more than it needs to be. |

I've never been on a fixed tariff so not had any dramtic increases when they end. This year has just been about less or better energy use plus a quite warm October and November in the South East. |

DD is always more than what you're actually using, unless you have a variable one. |

That's my point but you can ask for it to be reduced. Martin Lewis has been speaking about this a lot recently. |

Yes we are on a direct debit but we watch it carefully. We looked at our annual usage and it's actually dropped slightly as we've lowered the heating thermostat and water tank thermostat. However, taking the annual usage and the new unit costs into account our bills are probably correct. I wish it was lower but sadly it's about right. |

"Just a tad!
Yeah, everyone's has gone up, because the price per unit has gone up. Substantially "
I have a bit of credit built up but even with that and the payment from the government it's still frightening. And the winter isn't really here yet. |

I am lucky. In credit for both electricity and gas.
My cooking is all electric. So try to cook in bulk or two meals at once. So can freeze excess . Plus adjusted timings for heating. On less time. Gas is fixed until December 2024. Yes electricity is on variable tariff. With government payment actually getting back more than direct debit. |

"I don't think we will get such a generous government payment next time
Let's hope prices will drop by then or people will freeze and starve"
Yeah but you know once things go up in price they usually don't come back down |

That's very scary
I don't know about my bills yet as I pay quarterly (due end of this month) however my bills were ridiculously cheap before - £150 ish for a quarter for both together. I am expecting a shock.
I have deliberately only put my heating on for an hour every other day, just to stop the house getting damp, and haven't used my oven (gas) since I bought my air fryer in May. I only use the washing machine once a week, and haven't used the dryer at all.
We shall see. |

Yes, I really feel for those who just will not be able to afford their bills, even without putting their heating on. It's a dreadful situation |
