Who else is excited that today it is the world cup final between argentina v france and it is kick off 3pm, who do you think will win and what is your prediction?

I reckon that argentina will win with 2-1 and messi will score, will it be messis last world cup?

Morning Shag. Argentina were my tip from the start so I have to stick with them, but I'd prefer France to win with Giroud scoring the winner.

Morning, that is good and yes, argentina have a good chance to win as well, did you see julians goal the last game? He had the ball on his own from the mid field and played some fantastic football to score the goal

After the group stages, I predicted that the winner would be between England and France.

I belive France have the better discipline out of two teams but despite that, I'd love Argentina to win it. Not so because of Messi but because of Aston Villas Emile Martinez. I support Villa and would like Martinez to come away as a World Cup winner

Hi Shag. I drew France in my work’s World Cup sweepstake. Gutted they beat us - but onwards and upwards. If they win today I’m fifty quid up - which will pay towards Christmas dinner for 7 of us (family coming round).

If Argentina win I’ll be pleased for Messi - but I won’t get £50.

I’m probably not going to be able to watch it as we’re away on a family trip but I hope Argentina win. For Messi to retire without a World Cup win to his name would be a disservice to his contribution to the sport and his legacy. Let’s just hope he doesn’t clinch it with a goal by hand ball

I hope Argentina win

Messi Last game - this should confirm him as the better out of him and Ronaldo and probably him and Pele. Making him the best player ever.

France won it last time

Argentina have a guy called McCallister who plays for them.

Two of they're squad play for Brighton, not that I support them.

Their fans are so passionate, and cheeky in what they sing

If England had beaten France, then Morocco, this would of been one to many I think. Thankfully its the world's best two teams going at it and it would of been nice sentimentality to have any of the other lesser nations in, but we don't. Its as it should be.

Vamos Argentina

I'll be cheering on France. I said they'd win from the outset.

I don't understand misguided romantic notion of wanting Messi to win, simply as it's his last world cup. As a team, they simply don't deserve to win.

I'm not a fan of either because M'Bappe seems like massive knob and I hate this romanticism of Messi finally winning the world cup so don't want them to win because then everyone won't shut up about him being the GOAT.

I don't go to England games (never been to one) and I was too young to see the 1986 world cup, so I don't have this hatred for Maradona, indeed I believe he was the greatest of them all.

I don't know which Ronaldo you referred to but if its the fat Brazilian one I don't think he is top 3, & if it's the Portuguese ego maniac diva he wouldn't be in my top 10

Cruyff, Best, M Laudrup, Zico, Real Ronaldo, Iniesta, Ronaldinho, Eusebio, Zidane, Di Stefano, Garrincha, Greaves, Schifo, Hoddle, Weah, Beckenbauer...

Just some of the names I'd have over Christian Ronald. And obviously Messi & Pele too.

"Argentina have a guy called McCallister who plays for them"

Alexis MacAllister, son of former Boca Juniors & Argentina defender Carlos MacAllister, who is perhaps most notable for being one of the best bargain transfers in Sensible World Of Soccer. 500k enough to buy him & if you started your career mode with Bristol City in the Endsleigh League division 2 (aka league 1) you will likely win the league at a canter with Carlos in the back line.

So similar to the “romanticism” of every tournament being England’s to win right? Or does that not count? Just watch the game, the storylines don’t need to chap your ass that much.

Besides unless you’ve personally met M’Bappe, you have no way of determining if he is indeed a knob or not.

I guess I cannot understand the notion of wanting him to win a world cup to cement his status as being the greatest. Surely the World Cup is about the best team winning? Argentina certainly haven't been that. To be honest, I can't say Messi himself has been particularly outstanding this tournament.

.I don't think the romantic element of it is to cement his place.

It's a sense that after the years and years of utter ridiculous joy at watching him play I'd like to see him win the world cup.

I think his performance has been slightly overrated but he has had some vintage moments and been involved in deciding nearly every game they have won. Which at 35 and in his physical condition is about as good as anyone could have expected

More than any World Cup this one needs good PR and Messi winning was always the 'good news' story. Doesn't harm that he plays for PSG with strong ties to Qatar. He has been an extraordinary player but see him in the Champions League against the best teams and his age shows. Here he can walk half the game and still throw in his brilliant cameos to win the games.

Messi really needs this to put him in the Maradona/Pele (others?) class. His trophy cabinet is amazing but laregly at once club who have (rightfully) built their last fifteen years around him.

Funnily enough this is probably the Argentina team that would best cement it. More maradona 1986 than Pele 1970.

His longevity has been amazing.

I know the Qatari state own Messi but weaponising the flu against the French team just so Qatar will forever be known as the place where he achieved the "fairytale" ending to his World Cup career is unbelievably petty

Last time Argentina won the World Cup in 1986 they lost a 2-0 lead then won 3-2. They had a peak Maradonna then though..
