Pie and I are both massive fans of rare 60s soul, and travel all over to get our regular fix.

Any other lovers of the NS scene out there? Would love to hear any recommendations you have about your local clubs worth visiting + your current favourite tunes.

KTF.

Do I love Northern Soul? Indeed I do!

Have you seen the film Northern Soul? The first song in it is Time by Edwin Starr and the first song over the end credits is Turning My Heart Beat Up by The MVPs - which shows they had excellent taste

Somewhere else

I like the idea of the scene, but I would not have wanted to be there for the real deal in the 70s when everybody was on speed

We had to hunt high and low to find a cinema showing it, finally managed it. Loved the soundtrack and the fact that Lisa Stansfield was in it (who is a massive NS fan, by all accounts).

Would have loved to experienced the 70s scene. I didn’t do my first niter until ‘82 - 100 Club, London).

This carried over to the early 80s as well. Tried it once, never again.

Went to a niter last weekend in Keele. Not a sign of any of that there, just lots of water being d*unk after midnight . Dance floor was still busy when we left after 3 am.

I accidentally walked into a NS night in Nottingham once... I got the location confused with somewhere else i was supposed to be - the music was banging, i was sad to leave!!

I love watching NS dancers. I appreciate this doesn't help you though.

Some really great dancers out there, and I agree that it’s something else to watch when done properly. There’s a number of youngsters coming onto the scene who are fantastic to see on the dance floor.

Yeah I seen some young lad who was brilliant. He was in all the gear and was ace. He was born in the wrong era

Yeah. I backed them up recently online (in a small way), as they were getting a bit of grief for not dancing the “proper” way.

I love NS and the passion people have for the music and the scene. It can get a little intense, though (see above) .

Much as I love it, I like northern, I like it when other styles are played alongside it. Not always the most popular stance .

It’s fantastic to see peoples’ devotion though.

I adore Northern Soul. There was a regular NS night at Hull City Hall I always went to. Will try to find some new ones now I’ve moved

We’ll be down to Bristol at some point this year for the Saturday niter at the Old Market Assembly. This is now being run by a couple of lads we know, who have our taste in music.

As has been mentioned above, the Bristol yoof do appear to have rubbed some noses up the wrong way. Not met them yet, so cannot comment. The scene has always been fiercely protected by some. I’ve been going for over 40 years, do the niters with Pie and still get looked at as an outsider by some

Landslide is the most upbeat song about being miserable you will ever hear.

Very droll, Mr Carpenter .

Dexy’s did a great cover of Breaking Down.. on the b-side of Geno. They were a great soul band before Kevin Rowland went all Celtic gypsy.
