What a fantastic second half performance from the Villa, we dominated play and the win was nothing more than we deserved.

Hard to select a team for that with only a few games left in PL. We need 2 wins for 4th in my opinion given spurs run of games. |

Well done to you all. For those of you going, you will love the atmosphere at Olympians. Second best atmosphere I have ever seen anywhere in the world. I imagine for a semi final it will be even better.
Maybe now you lot appreciate what a great effort it took for my lot to win the UECL last season. (Btw, we were unbeaten in 15 games, winning 14).
Hope you win it. |

That would put Villa on 69 points, Spurs are currently on 60 points & have a game in hand, and I could see them getting 3 wins from Burnley Sheffield United & Chelsea, the other fixtures are a North London Derby which can always go either way, & Liverpool who are hitting a bad run of form. Man City is a write off.
I think 4th place will go right to the wire. 5th will definitely be a Europa League spot now given the poor performances of the other English teams in Europe. |

Villa have the best manager in world football at the moment. Tactically superior to pep and anchelotti. With their players he would obv do even better but villa have a strong chance in the CL this year. Id bet now we make the QF. |

Played well at Fulham on Sat, though if Periera had actually tried scoring with the penalty (which I thought was a bit soft) rather than playing a fucking backpass it might have been different.
But Villa should have been in front by half time & were definitely better side after the break |

Newcastle have had a mental run of form but 6 games ago they weren't looking all that great. Villa have had a much longer run at a higher level. It will be a close run in but Newcastle are not set up for improvement next year. Villa are doing this in back to back seasons. |

Watching it reminded me of the time Villa won the cup in 1895 and it was taken from a jewellers in Birmingham and Villa had to replace it. |

Sadly I think the number of games and high pressure ones at that are taking their toll. Villas squad isn’t as robust as other top 5 teams and sadly having two players like Rashford and Watkins unable to play in the team at the same time (for whatever reason) seems to be causing a bit of resentment rather than a bring out the best in Watkins result.
Still been a good season just unable to land the big blows in big games sadly. |
Reply privately (closed, thread got too big) | |
Palace are a big physical team so play horses for courses.
Onana and Mings needed to start for their size and presence. I'd have put Rogers central and McGinn on the right. Asensio on the bench.
When we played Palace at Selhurst in Feb, Unai played a back 3 and the players looked lost and we were rightly hammered 4-1.
I really thought UE would have learned from that.
There are no excuses. Line up and tactics were wrong and that's on the manager. He can't get it right every game. Just such a shame as this was our big chance to get that cup considering City at present aren't the force they once were.
So much for the Forest Villa final that most neutrals wanted. |

At the risk of hijacking a Villa thread, we were absolutely buzzing with the day. Still got a hazy head now and can't wait to get back there in a few weeks. The Villa fans we met were class in defeat so hopefully you finish strongly and push on for Top 5! Hoping we finally win something this year now.. |

I think you got a great team there and I have a feeling you’re going to win it this time up Crystal Palace
Liverpool fc 20 league titles and 6 European cups now that what I call history |

Well guys...today could have gone worse! I wanted Newcastle to draw but as it stands, with an arsenal win next week, we could still do this with 2 big wins ourselves |

The VAR decision at Old Trafford seemed strange , apparently because the referee had already blown his whistle believing it to be a foul this meant VAR were unable to tell him it wasn't
On a completely different subject , have they managed to turn on the goal line technology yet at Villa Park ,,??? |

The seff utd was game 30 and 45 mins to go. It wasn't season defining at all. That season we also lost 6-9 points from bad VAR decisions too. This was a ref who isn't used to var (only 11 prem games) and forgot to let it run the extra few seconds. This was 20 mins to go at 0-0 when we needed a draw. It has cost us 80-100m plus the players we now lose amd won't sign.
We were arguably the best prem side in the CL competition - arsenal v madrid the only better one off performance. We deserved to beat psg for how we played over the 2 legs - and we did beat them - from 2 nil down.
Next season, Chelsea and Newcastle will struggle to even make the knock out stages. Liverpool were poor in europe this year as were city. Villa now have a long road back to the top 4 |

Fully agree that the decision to disallow the goal on Sunday was an incredibly poor one, and understandable that you feel so hard done by.
The counter-argument is that your cock of a goalkeeper let his team mates down and you failed to get even a point against the worst Man Utd team in your lifetime.
On the other points, Villa weren’t “arguably the best Prem side in the CL competition”. Arsenal reached the semis, you reached the QFs. Also, didn’t see Villa winning 7-1 away.
To say Newcastle will struggle to make the knock out stages is disingenuous. They have been a better, more successful team than Villa this season and were knocked out of the CL last time by a VAR decision v PSG every bit as poor as the one that went against you on Sunday. Time will tell…..

Yes Martinez was stupid getting sent off but we rode our luck and at 72 minutes, the game was still 0-0. Man utd were the better side, there's no denying but the goal Rogers scored was completely legal and should have been awarded.
From then on Villa could have just snuffed them out and perhaps got a second too when they and not us had to chase the game and take risks.
As for Sheffield United, the Villa manager's remit was to not lose. Yes they should have been 1-0 up but Villa had plenty of time to equalise. A game is 90 mins plus not 42.
To put such an inexperienced referee in a game like that on sunday with so much riding on the outcome was very poor from PMGOL. |
