On photos posted here I don't think so as they are low resolution, and some people are really really good at photo manipulation

You check the metadata of the image, EXIF details of the file to determine if the image has been manipulated in any way.

Copy the photo into a blank canvas in photoshop and it strips all exif data

To answer the OP, it really depends how good the edit is. Some are obvious, some not so obvious. Zoom in close and look for what we call artefacts, remnants of the edit.
