Comics, gaming, board games, DnD are all my standard nerdy things.
Big reader - fantasy and historical fiction mainly (and yes a healthy dose of smut)
Bit of a science geek. Biochemist by qualification but currently fascinated with some of the epigenetic stuff that’s developing now |

I've been collecting and playing 40k since I was around 13/14. I'm not as big into it as I was but I still have the occasional game. |

I'm currently working my way through Star Wars Outlaws which is breezy and fun, the lil partner you get is so cute.
I'm also still enjoying some co op Baldur's Gate 3 with my partner, and we're both enjoying Avowed separately as well.
What're you playing right now? |

Pretty nerdy, typical board games kind of stuff but am nerdy about topics I'm interested in. Mostly marine related topics and more broadly ecology.
Recently Victorian Medical Science and its representation in literature and authorial intent is something I'm being nerdy about and have read widely around the subject.

That sounds really interesting! literature of that era had some really fascinating ways of depicting scientific concepts.
Between that and marine ecology you're sorted for topics to chat about |

Yes, a really interesting time period generally. The scientific hubris of the day coupled with secularisation of intellectual attitudes provides an interesting backdrop to a society which was still fundamentally Christian. How authors navigate these and to what end is something I like considering.
But... I'm not sure that's something that has mass appeal in terms of conversation |

That's fair 😊 although I find it's always fun when you meet someone and they tell you about a recent focus of theirs! I love hearing people speak at length about something they're knowledgeable of. It's definitely subjective though!
Out of interest is there any literature you'd recommend to a lay person on the topic? I'd be interested in reading around it sometime. |

To be honest I mostly looked at essays and articles on Google scholar bc I have free access with work. Outside of that I'm not sure. Actually a lot of what I was looking at was medical journals then literary and drawing my own conclusions. I bored people with a presentation about it all and even moreso with photos from The Old Operating Theatre in London that I took to add to my ppt.
I did read 'Science and Culture in the Nineteenth Century' by. Leeds Uni professor (Topham)- a collection of essays but I'm not sure how readily available it is. It's something I found gathering dust in the library where I work. It was interesting because it looks at different elements of science from botany to medicine to astronomy then at cultural and political dogma of the time which was undergoing a rather major state of flux. |

Hehe that's totally fair, that sounds excellent I'll have a look! Thanks for sharing I really appreciate it 😀
For some extra context I write in my spare time, so I go full raccoon mode for finding out about certain new topics and interesting things to learn, collecting new experiences and potentially applying them back to my own hobby. 😌 |

I think Origins was marginally better. Odyssey is huuuuuuge! As a result it gets a bit repetitive, and I have to admit to have gotten a bit bored with it. |

I agree with this, the scale of Odyssey was vast and repetitive, I found the save with Valhalla! I actually enjoyed Mirage as a scaled back offering with a nod to AC1 |
