Can you explain what sapiosexual means?
Jump to: Newest in thread
Are we defining things based on what they mean? Or their common usage?
In common usage, I'd say it means pretentiousness. People who weren't out the back smoking during their GCSEs and thinking that means they're a professor in something. Looking for people who have similarly crawled up their own arses. |

People who love intelligence over physical attraction
On that assumption, they should choose; Stephen Hawking , Albert Einstein or Rowan Atkinson over Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp or Steve McQueen.
Obviously there are handsome clever men out there as well. |

It means next to nothing because it's more often than not incorrectly used.
You like people who are "intelligent"? Fantastic. If their physical features still factor in, are more important, you have a list of requirements for aesthetics and you want someone who's not stupid? You're not sapiosexual, you're just misusing a word. Wanting stimulating conversation does not make you sapio. |

Literally my favourite thing is that people say they’re sapio but the person still has to be hot. I’m attracted to intelligent hot people. I’m not attracted to intelligence.
No but seriously I’m interested to know what it means to different people |

A word people use to think they’re better than others
Define intelligence?
A degree. A doctorate. Or no formal education but is outstanding in what they do |

I agree with this.
It's a boilerplate of pretentiousness, sometimes found on profiles as an inference to erudition for no purpose whatsoever. It's like having a product that's made in China but festooned with a badge that says "Designed in Paris".
I've spoken to women who had sapiosexual on their profiles but after a little dialogue it was clear they were more sap and a lot less sexual. |

I’ve definitely found myself attracted to not traditionally attractive people because of their intelligence. But I’m definitely not sapiosexual. I am a shallow shallow man |

Metrosexuality has always been defined by more than that. Like moisturising. |

I'm metrosexual and proud of it. I can prove it too: the price tag far exceeds the quality of (some) of my skincare products. 😘 |

Once upon a long ago, I gave in to a colleague's regular pleas and accompanied her to a barbecue. So? So, it was the monthly social of the local branch of Mensa, of which she was a member.
I have had business meetings with a manufacturer of traffic cones - yes, literally true - which were more interesting. |

I believe the number of genuinely sapiosexual people is significantly smaller than those who claim to be. Just liking your date to have an IQ higher than 100 and be able to hold a conversation, as one of many attributes, doesn't mean make you sapiosexual. It's just become a trendy/fashionable buzzword. |

I think it’s a term misappropriated by those who think that not wanting to fuck someone who is vain and shallow makes them sapiosexual. I’ve also seen it used by those who will exclude anyone without a degree. Sadly that misappropriation means if I see it used I roll my eyes and think pretentious twat…. Despite me being very attracted to people’s minds.
It really depends on what people define as intelligence.
Academic qualifications are one thing but intelligence to me is so much more than that. Their career is irrelevant.
A sharp inquisitive mind that’s always questioning and examining (including challenging themselves and others), a lust for learning (I don’t care if it’s a new recipe, a knitting pattern or you’re completing your masters in neuroscience), a clever wit that doesn’t punch down and finally emotional intelligence and maturity count for a lot.
Does that exclude physical attraction? No of course not. It means I want both.

Sure thing Steve...it's a term pseudo intellectuals have coined that allow them to justify sex with Ugs as that's all they can get, and they claim they're attracted to personality rather than looks. 🥪 |

Well, you learn something new every day! 😳
I'm now off to re-evaluate and probably re-write my pretentious, up my own arse, profile! 🤣 In my defence, it does blatantly show my misunderstanding of the word. |

It’s funny how there’s a lot of people that consider themselves intelligent to be punching down on this…
Yes, sapiosexual is often considered to be an ableist concept, one that is problematic and often misunderstood or misused. I’m going to give it a big old gallic shrug and just go ahead and find people that I like. |
