Riding a bike is like making love to a beautiful woman.
First make sure it can take your weight, then check it's the right height for mounting.
Then feel the saddle, is it large, small, or hard, soft, leathery, worn, comfortable.
It's entirely down to personal preference.
Give the frame a good going over and lubricate where necessary. If possible peel back the rim and check the inner tubes for any leakages or blockages.
Then you should be ready to climb on the saddle and start peddling.
