Do people get it wrong a lot?

Do they get it wrong even when it’s written in a previous message or email?

Not so much my first name or my married name but people would spell my maiden name wrong all the time.

Yeah. Or at least more often than I'd bloody expect. My name is as common as dirt.

Did get Elizabeth once. Like "hi, my name is Swing", "Hi Elizabeth"

My name doesn't sound anything like Elizabeth.

I have an unusual name, so it's always getting mispronounced. I'm tired of correcting people all the time

"Not so much my first name or my married name but people would spell my maiden name wrong all the time. "

I had the opposite. My ex used to book shit in my name because my surname is a tad less common than Smith, and easy to spell. His not so much.

Fairly regularly mid spell and miss hear. The second letter of our surname could be swapped and the name would sound similar and spelling it out would sound similar so if people have misheard the name they tend to mishear the spelling so it fits what they think they heard. Phonetic alphabet helps.

And it's never spelt correctly! Whether that be by the person, or autocorrect 🤔

Mine is similar to a fairly common name and it annoys me when people just default to the common name because they are lazy or haven’t read it properly, but I dont mind when people mispronounce it because it means that they have tried

All the time my name is spelled Dylan. But I get Dillon, Dillan, Dyelon. All sorts.

People mispronounce my name all the time. There’s multiple ways to spell it as well, so they hardly ever get that right.

It’s a lost cause trying to get people to say or spell my last name correctly. I answer to anything that sounds like they may be calling me at appointments etc.

All the time! I find it highly irritating. It’s Glenn with 2 n’s. Not some freaking valley in Scotland!

No one really calls me by my full first name anymore and they use the shortened version which is a lot easier. I hate having to spell out my last name and saw some horror shows of people trying to spell it when I just say it.

I usually get a blank stare until I ask them if they would like me to spell that for them

Yes! There's a few variations of my name, and my surname. My first name just looks wrong to me without that extra "e"! I took Mr's surname when we married, and people spell it fine, but they mishear it all the time!

My surname is commonly spelt a different way due to it being a religious name so it’s second nature now to spell my name after I say it.

Most people pronounce my name wrong all the time. Granted I have an uncommon Greek name but it’s pronounced as you would read it. For some reason people forget what the letter h after t sounds like.

My full first name I tend to spell as it can have a variety of spellings, but I only use it for official things. I use a shortened version for daily life. My married surname I spell as it's not overly common and people don't know how to spell it. Spell check doesn't like it much either and has previously tried to autocorrect it

Carlisle usually

Yup.

My legal name is often misspelled. It's part of why I've gone by another name for the past two decades and really should get around to changing it.

The work email protocol is firstname.lastname. And the amount of people who reply misspelling the first name instead of using the name in the signature is absurd 💜

This is the worst.

People always cannot say or spell my surname.

I give up with people.

I've just decided to say it and then spell it out straight away. Give them no inch!

If people see my surname written down before hearing it, they always mispronounce it. If they hear it first, they always misspell it.

I have a really popular legal name but it’s spelt differently to the usual way & I’m still forever telling people it’s spelt with a ‘k’ & not the way everyone assumes it’s a real big pain in my life

One of my ancestors has a misspelled given name. The female version of it. The only First Middle Surname in the area is an Aboriginal tracker, rather than a white farmer. My ancestor was First -Female Surname.

They get our name wrong so often that we automatically spell it when we say it. People STILL get it wrong because they don't listen to what we're saying they're writing what they *think* we are saying. If we write it down they find it too difficult to transcribe it correctly. 🤷

Yes. It's double-barrelled as well... people seem to really struggle with it. I'm now the douchenozzle who uses the phonetic alphabet to spell it. That really pains me.
