"Thats what leaf compost areas are for, they bundle into the middle and roll around prickled up, till they end up like a leafy armadillo "
So they build up fallen leaves on their prickles and make themselves a warm little coat. I've learnt something tonight. |

"Do hedgehogs not hibernate? I don't actually know the answer but seems like the type of animal that might "
Just googled it. Yes they do. Between October-April ish. I'm sure they'd still appreciate a warm little coat though. |

"I think some contraption that would fully protect them from motor vehicles, would be ideal too. Someone could design it and go on Dragons Den"
Yes. I'm starting a Go Fund Me immediately, to buy body armour and crash helmets for all our local hedgehogs.
Failing that, if anyone has a pet tortoise, keep the shells for me when they die |

Hedgehog body armour. But like Iron Man's suit. It can be kept my micro expansion tech in a bracelet on their ankle. When a car is about to squish them, instant shields engage. |

Yes. Made to measure and whatever material drysuits are made of, so each spine fits through a hole but it remains watertight. Tiny wellies can be attatched so the ouchmouse doesnt have to upset his missus by not wiping his feet.
And hi-vis so road crossing is that little bit safer!

Not the best idea. seeing as tortoises average age is over 120 yrs. The little hedgehogs will be waiting a while then. |

And could double, to provide insulation for cold winter periods.
I leave twigs and tons of leaves out in autumn for winter protection for them. Some may not be so lucky, to find a good spot, so pop-up insulation could suffice. |

Not so. If i had, i would have suggested we create an army of shrubswine guardians, to assist road crossings. Fully enclosed carriages pulled by crickets. And maybe even a new education programme for them, where they not only learn to deflea themselves, but paid apprenticeships in umbrella making!
Or we just eat them, i dunno!

Yes, they do, making a cosy nest and lowering body temperature. So this thread is pointless.
I'd love to hibernate but can't so spend the winter in India where it is lovely and warm. |

They do if it's cold enough but this year again its not realy got cold enough."
We put out food for them when it goes mild in winter, as they wake up early. Loads get taken into the hedgehog rescue because they are underweight, from a disturbed hibernation |
