Everything is a mirror..
Some look for attention
Some find it
People react or don't
We all have opinions??
I think its better there is a forum than not.
I guess engage with what chimes...
Leave the rest to those that want to engage. |

I prefer to know more about people with tjreads where they say a bit about themsekves- yes, even if they identify as a Brie or a Manchego, than those “say you’re in” threads- now, those -are- tedious…. |

It's the lounge.
The joy of the lounge has always been it's randomness, quirkiness and the presence of threads that people start 'just because'.
If you want the smut chat, advice, help, club info, conspiracy theories, bikes or any other 'specialist subject' just head to the relevant forums.
Long live the Lounge and all who sail in her. 😁😁 |

Compared to years ago, yes.
People used to speak their minds a lot more but everyone seems so much more reserved now..
It's a shame but it is what it is. I still enjoy reading them and seeing people's different characters and personalities and the variety of subjects.

Xcellent thread this!
Mrs doesn't know because she is still on her second car ever. Would still be on the first except Mr wrote it off. Naughty Mr.
Mr is one of those cheeses that develops crunchy bits as it gets old. |

I try to start thread's that are thought provoking and engaging in actual conversation mostly,
I do also post trivial nonsense at times.
I find a lot of the thread's I start are answered but ignored by certain people which leads to less replies.
The forum as a whole is much harder to get people to engage in terms of meaningful threads.
What I mean 6/7 years ago the lounge moved so fast that thread's would fill up quickly with lot's of replies today a thread can stay close to the top of page one all day.
Another thing people are way too quick to cry foul and be offended by the smallest thing resulting in a time out this I feel has led to people playing it safe and going for "safe" subject matters for fear of a ban or the wrath of the forum favs.
It has created a blander more repetitive forum.

I haven’t owned a third car yet but I’d quite like to have a silver one. They depreciate in value less than other colours I’m told. I have absolutely no proof to back that up.
I’d be the classic Dairylea if I was a cheese. The triangle that is, not that shit that comes in a spreadable tub.
MB I had chicken sausages with bell peppers, onions, tomatoes and sweetcorn for dinner. I’d quite like another one of your cake threads with pictures again when you have the time. Let’s see if I can guess the flavours again 😊 |

"I think you need those kind of threads as they take no effort and it’s an easy start for newbies to get involved."
That's what I think as well. Some inoffensive threads like what your favourite chocolate is much easier to get involved in and dip your toe in before going into the more heated debates like the best dunking biscuit or what you call a bread roll |

I've got some exciting news though!
The bag of jelly babies I'm currently working my way through had loads that don't have that slightly crispy shell. Must be a duff batch, but it's an eating revelation! |

Haha. Yes, I have just come out of my latest ban and promise to behave for a few days at least.
But you're right. I just tend to leave the threads that are provocative now. Same people, same baiting, whether intentional or not.
Flip for them, they do not wish to engage with my maturity levels. Quid pro quo. |

I enjoy the nonsense and repetition interspersed with the occasional lynching.
Shit posting and ego stroking are important pillars of online life and if I didn't find it here I'd have to spend more time in the comments on Reddit and no one wants that. Please don't make me go back. |

Here’s my serious 2 cents on the matter. I’m not directing this at you OP or anyone else in this thread for the record.
I hang out in the lounge because it’s often light hearted, a bit silly and FAB is something of an escape from reality for me.
I have in depth discussions among friends about politics, economics, philosophy, psychology, relationships, art, religion and other subjects. The problem with forums and social media in general is that they’re not the best platforms to have these nuanced discussions. Brexit lead me to having arguments and cost me friendships because I made the mistake of talking about it on Facebook when it should have been done in person. I bet others can relate to that too?
I’ve also read some seriously dumb things from people on here (one example was someone trying to argue that stereotyping wasn’t racist) I don’t respond to them because other than calling them a fucking moron (which would probably get me banned) you can’t fix that level of stupid. So what’s the point 🤷♂️ I also subscribe to the idea that you don’t argue with a stupid person. They’ll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
I for one quite like it the way it is in the lounge. It’s not always for me but I don’t think it needs to change 👍

I avoid posts by certain people as I find they aren’t my cup of tea.
I tend to avoid posts by the forum favourites as it just becomes a circle jerk between the favourites.
But I only dip in and out so it doesn’t really bother me - tend to be more in Swingers chat than the Lounge as the posts are just the same now.

The way that people look at the forums is interesting but also hilarious.
People (who don’t start threads) moan about lack of fun so other people try and start fun threads. Not good enough.
People complain that they are being gagged and can’t say their true feelings. But of course they can, they just have to follow the rules that they’ve never read.
People complain about cliques and faves (reality it’s just people that are friends and interact away from the forums) whilst having friends and favourites that they engage with.
Just use it for what you want. Post your own threads and you’ll find your people.
People complain so much about this place but they still post. Unfortunately, no, you can’t gatekeep this place. So sad you can’t stop people re you don’t like enjoying themselves or posting.

What are forum favourites. I see this so often it makes no sense. Nobody is better than anyone in this place. Regular posters are all recognised. I recognise most names in here if they post on threads I read. |

It's easy for me. There are 3 types of people on the forums.
Those that like to enjoy a lovely sandwich, a flask of tea, perhaps strawberries and cream, maybe even pushing the boat out and having a lovely G&T and enjoying a picnic and a good old gossip.
Also, there are those that would love to go over to this group, take a massive dump of gargantuan proportions on the picnic cloth and smear it in. Maybe even flicking a clegnut or two at these people.
Then there are those that watch from the sides in amazement at both the dumpee(s) and the folk trying to enjoy eating their food. These people are having their own thoughts as to WTAF they have just witnessed.
*Mods. I do not condone dropping off a chocolate log in public. These are merely my thoughts from someone, maybe at the sides. |

"Guys stop replying to me please we’re not a clique "
Are we really so concerned by appearances that we worry about who we talk to and what people will think about it?
Is it really necessary to cater to people's feelings when speaking to one another, other than just recognising they exist and give them the same basic dignity as anyone else?
Or are we worried about people disagreeing with us, because we don't have courage in our convictions?
Gosh. Sounds like some primary school snowflake shit. |

Or are we worried about people disagreeing with us, because we don't have courage in our convictions?
Gosh. Sounds like some primary school snowflake shit. "

"I avoid posts by certain people as I find they aren’t my cup of tea.
I tend to avoid posts by the forum favourites as it just becomes a circle jerk between the favourites.
But I only dip in and out so it doesn’t really bother me - tend to be more in Swingers chat than the Lounge as the posts are just the same now.

What are forum favourites. I see this so often it makes no sense. Nobody is better than anyone in this place. Regular posters are all recognised. I recognise most names in here if they post on threads I read."
I didn’t say anyone is better than anyone but there’s clearly people who only reply to people they chat with (and/or if a woman is on the thread ).
Non regular posters don’t get much traction or attention. If a non regular poster makes a post then it dies fast so they probably don’t bother again.
I’m not having a go and know that’s the internet for you but it happens whether you don’t think it does or not

I think more people should just go ahead and post. I remember years ago when I started using the forums just posting threads. Some people engaged with some they didn’t.
I think people just care too much about getting laid in the forums.
I didn’t think you’re having a go btw. But I am genuinely curious because like who are the faves? It just feels like it’s ‘the people I don’t like’ coded |

People have run out of ideas this is true, but remember there’s always new people joining the forums so they will be seeing these threads for the first time.
Yes it probably will give a kinda look and wonder what they hell they’ve walked in to, but if you’re more of the creative kind then do feel free to start a thread on something that’s not been discussed yet?👍🏻 |
