Because I feel like I’m being dim and that’s entirely possible.
What is the point of the ‘Reply in forum’ button? We’re always having to say to people “Use the ‘reply + quote’ button” and, if we want to just post a stand-alone message, there’s the button at the bottom of the thread ‘Post a new message’. And of course we can message privately (which should probably be removed as well, but that’s for a different thread).
Surely the ‘Reply in forum’ button is unnecessary and confusing for newbies. I certainly fell foul of it when I joined in. |

Reply in forum is when you want to reply to a comment but without quoting it.
Post new message to thread is for posting non-sequiturs.
You get a slightly different shade of blue depending which button you use and the reaction buttons give you different options.

That’s about the only benefit I can think of for that button - a minor convenience that causes confusion for newbies. I say we rise up and rage against the machine. Fight for a new world order! ✊
And if we got rid of the ‘reply privately’ button I bet women would get pestered far less. Committed pests could still go through the profile. |

I don't have a problem with the 'reply privately' if the message is related to the subject matter, unfortunately most of the time they don't. |

I’ve used it a few times when I’ve felt the answer is relevant to helping the OP out… don’t always want to share more personal thought/opinions with the whole thread!
