What were your thoughts on the Oscars this year?

I was surprised Anora won so much. I would've given Best Picture to Conclave and Best Actress to Demi Moore. Adrien Brody didn't deserve Best Actor over Ralph Fiennes.

Apparently, some voters didn't vote Fiennes as they thought he had already won when he hasn't. Adrien Brody has though!

The fact that Denis Villenueve wasn't up for best director was ridiculous.

I've not seen Dune 2, but I would think Villeneuve deserved it over Audiard.

I can't believe how many moms Emilia Perez got.

100% this. He may not of won, but in comparison to the other nominations this was an astonishing omission.

I haven't seen Conclave or The Brutalist but I've read one review of the latter saying it is one of those movies that isn't half as good as some would tell you and if you were to say you didn't like it you would be accused of not being intelligent enough to understand it.

I've seen lots of oscar winning movies over the years that I thought were absolute rubbish and I read reviews after that agreed with my opinion but people almost felt the need to see them simply because of the hype around them.

I haven't seen Anora, but I was gutted for Demi Moore. Also, super ironic that she lost to a younger actor.

" Not surprised how badly perez did "

Very annoying that it took up slots which could have gone to more deserving movies but I'm glad it only won Best Song.

Both movies try to tackle contemporary issues facing women but I think The Substance does it much better and has a more coherent thesis throughout. That said, Mikey Madison does give an amazing performance, so her win doesn't feel undeserved, though I would have given it to Moore.

I also think Moore would always have lost because The Substance is a horror film, which is a shame.

Oh yeah. Not sure who I'd swap the nomination for but surely Barbaro and Rosselini were more deserving

My fake cough voice when I phoned in sick for work once wasn’t even nominated, so I’ve lost interest

Film awards have got to become more open to recognising horror and comedy! The way Demi Moore portrayed vulnerability, fear, and dysmorphia were so skilled.

I watched it last night. It's a difficult watch but very eye-opening and important.

Well Anora is a comedy-drama and is pure comedy for a decent chunk of the film, so maybe it's changing for comedy. EEAAO was also a comedy-drama and as well as The Holdovers, so it seems The Academy is recognising those.

Horror gets ignored most of the time though.

The Oscars are now a sad irrelevance, amazing how quickly that has happened.

Understandable lot of noise is made about actors or actresses with multiple wins, but was reminded some of the background or technical staff have won mutlipe awards but hardly heard about.
