I've found myself having to help myself on a number of occasions because the tabby that is in the one in Edinburgh would rather lick its own minge and ass with it's leg straight out than serve customers. |

I don't think it's very hygienic really. Are the cats allowed out to poo and wee, who checks they aren't walking on the tables after scratching to cover up poo or licking stuff off plates after cleaning themselves? |

"In Leeds you can stroke the pussies
Leeds should really have a dog cafe.
There are onevor two and lots of pubs too that I used to take mine for some grub "
Yes, the pubs near me are very dog friendly and sometimes more dogs than punters.🐕🐕🐕 |

Used to take mine to a nice restaurant too. They did a lovely steak dinner for him and a bit of ham as was his favourite |

Oh dear, some have obviously never visited a cat cafe!
Also, Cats Protection dropped "league" from their title decades ago
I've visited cat cafes.
When they are done well I have no issue with them.
I'll give you examples of best practice.
Hand sanitizer on entry & exit.
Cleaning of the cafe area done hourly.
All food served individually wrapped.
Access for the cats to leave public areas into their own private space.
Double door entry system ensuring no cats escape.
Round the clock staff on site.
If a cat proves unsuitable to the cafe environment they are moved to a traditional foster home.
Cats that are all from rescue and needing homes.
My local cat cafe has two branches and recently cats number 361 & 362 have been adopted.
In less than two years. |

How much did they charge him for the steak dinner ?"
I can't recall exactly but it was not too bad or I woild remember. It was a little rare treat and same time as rest of us had our dinner too. |

We love cat cafes, especially the one in Leeds but I can understand why some want them phased out.
We've seen adults being aggressive toward cats when they're not being entertained, worst one we've seen is a cat repeatedly poked with a stick while sleeping.
The staff try their best to stop it, but when their expected to be serving food/drinks too it'll be hard to keep eyes on idiots. |

I was reading online about how most cat cafes are now closing down and will not be a thing anymore which is really sad.

"The RSPCA and Cat Protection League want cat cafes phased out. What harm are they doing? "
I don't have much knowledge but I suspect it's something to do with confined spaces. People can be erratic too and they're constantly having to interact with them.
Generally anywhere where animals are "entertainment" welfare can be dubious. |

I've heard from a few people that the one in Birmingham is treating the cats really badly.
I mean I guess it's not hard to believe. You don't have to be trained in animal care or even like cats to work there, somehow you have to get them all into cages when you all leave at 6pm, then they're alone all night, then you come in in the morning and have to shut shovel and feed however many cats you've got, then there's unruly kids trying to pull their tails and cooking climb the furniture after them...
It's not hard to see how mistreatment can go on pretty much anywhere.
They're cute and everything but after thinking about it and hearing what I've heard I don't think I could support them by going and spending money there. |

"There's one in Edinburgh and I pass it a lot when at work. Those cats seem very content and well looked after "
The one in the Grassmarket? They always look fine to me.
There's a pub in Birmingham has two cats. I've never been in a more chilled environment 🤓 |

"I don't think they should ban the cats but are cats being exploited ?"
People can actually adopt a cat they see and take a liking to. I think that's a great idea. All new owners properly vetted and all that.
Meanwhile the cats are kept warm, safe and fed with lots of interaction with other cats and people.
What's not to like? |

I know a cat cafe that is basically a private business run by a breeder, "only a few litters of kittens are born each year" claims the website, but there are quite a few different breeds represented in that cafe |

They should never have been allowed. It's not good for the cats and for me personally it is nothing less than a FUCKING LIBERTY to expect me to consume food and drink in a place that has a dozen or so cats in it. Licking themselves , lying around where ever they want , Hair , snot , cat flu, whining mewling and hissing ets....
BUT - its the cats I feel for ..... loads of weird strangers coming and going .... locked in a cafe day n night ..... shouldn't be allowed. It's cruel.
Vile .. |

Animal welfare organisations have expressed concerns as the cats are unable to express their natural behavioural patterns.
Who would have thought that eh, shut in a cafe 24/7 |

The ideal would be somewhere with outdoor space, such as a farm cafe where they can come and go.
A lot are rescued cats and you can home th we m so I've read. In Cyprus you will often have cats around, so you get the benefit of better weather |
