"Is it not too early for them? I saw the first one in the garden today. Do you leave them one or try and get rid of them. They can lay up to 300 eggs each. I don't want slugs all over the place"
Masala sauce, would that fettle them ? |

They live through the years but as cold blooded animals, they will typically be sheltered and inactive when it's cold. Give them warmth and they have energy to get moving. Plants sprouting means there's food.
I've had some success using copper barriers, for prize plans.
I remove hiding spots in autumn, such as leaf coverings on the lawn and it's reduced the problem.
And I try to grow what's less interesting to them. |

"Bit of beer in a cup and they all go in there.
Noooooooooo. If you give them beer they will start shaggin like rabbits and there will be more of the blighters. "
And they are hermaphrodites so each time you get two loads of them. |

If you have any planters, copper tape helps. Use ash for flower beds as salt when wet can mess up any growth.. other than that either squish them or pick them up and leave them exposed, the birds will eat them... definitely good for the wee birdies 😁 |

"Bitrex blue pellets used to be a thing, but not everybody wants to go down that route.
Won't that make the slugs go hard? And fuck like sluggy rabbits?🤣"
Not if they're pissed and got brewer's droop. |

I went out after dark with a headtorch a pair of salad tongs and a plant pot with half an inch of salt in it. Caught hundreds of the buggers. Into the pot they go, quick shake round, and tip out the mess at the end. Repeat over several nights and it really hit the numbers. |

Put yourself in the molluscs shoes (slime) for one second, sure you'd be eating away, left and right at all that leafy goodness! |

Fighting talk. The war is on. Do we need a peace delegation? "
I feel that any peace delegation we can muster might be better deployed elsewhere.

Fight fire with fire. Get a shotgun, load it with shotgun slugs then BOOM! the slug is gone.
I know a shotgun takes a while to reload but even if you have a bad infestation it doesn't matter; they're hardly going to run away like frightened deer. |

I've decided to play noce, ha e a little chat and try and make them see sense and move out on their own accord. Explain everything to them and what the options are and see what happens. Hopefully they will be reasonable and realise the alternative isn't pretty. |

Ages ago I saw something with Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall in it. He had a problem with mice, a couple came to his house and asked them very nicely to leave and they did! Maybe your slugs will do the same 😬 |

Slugs don't like the taste of garlic, it also irritates their mucous membranes. There are instructions on Google how to make garlic spray (which deters aphids, caterpillars and beetles too).
You basically crush garlic in water and spray it on your plants. It lasts up to a month in dry weather, but reapply if heavy rain. Harmless to wildlife too and very cheap. |

It stinks to high heaven and woe betide you if you get it on your clothes or hands, add a little washing up liquid too. |

I actually encourage dandelions because my tortoise loves them. I did type the generic name of unwanted plants forgetting that it's a censored word 🤦 |

There's a reason that meat and foods have been marinated in these things for years, not just for flavour!
I watched a video about turmeric and what it does to human parasites. Almost indicates that this cannot be accidental and more than likely generations of passed down knowledge. |

There are Organic certified pellets, but I use them as a last resort.
Try removing places they can hide, timber around beds, etc ... |

I'm plagued by slugs every summer and i've tried the old type blue pellets and those wool pellets, tried picking them up late at night and putting them in salt(used to get 60 a night easily) tried beer traps, egg shells and copper wire and tape but i'm fighting a losing battle. There's a small wood out the back of where i live and its a breeding ground for the buggers. The neighbour infront of me has let her garden get over grown and full of junk so i get attacked from both directions and after a rain shower its like slug heaven in my garden. We used to have a few hedgehogs about but not seen any for about 10 years or so now and the foxes aren't interested in slugs now since a bloke up the road started feeding them chicken every morning.
Its a never ending fight against the slimmy buggers |

I used to have a massive problem with slugs, literally 100’s living under my decking and would come out at night to eat all of my plants. I tried traps but not pellets because of pets and wildlife. In the end the only thing that worked was spraying the decking and grass with the hose, waiting an hour then going out and collecting them (with gloves) and giving them a beer bath. I did this every night for a couple of weeks and I only get the occasional one now. |

Put a thick layer of sharp sand round your plants. |
