How is someone privileged?

In fair Verona.

How do you describe someone is privileged (sometimes it looks like arrogance to me).

What are the obvious signs when you look around Fab? Does it attract you? Would you avoid someone who is like that?

All over

There are a few arrogant people around, that's for sure. Arrogance is not attractive but they wouldn't know as it often comes with total lack of self awareness as well as confused with confidence. And by the way applies to both sexes. Luckily can easily be spotted whether from their profile, forum participation or message exchanges. On the other hand there are plenty who aren't like that.

How are we defining privileged?

I don't think being privileged equates to being arrogant though, some very humble privileged people. Some people are just arrogant regardless

Whether someone is privileged is highly subjective is it not?

It is certainly subjective, but my guage tends to be annual consumption of Percy Pigs, not a cheap packet anymore.

WHEREVER I LAY MY HAT

I think of, and describe myself as, extremely privileged. I'm comfortably off but by no means rich or posh... However I am exceptionally fortunate in having amazing friends and family, good health and spend my days doing the things I love. That to me is true privilege

I always thought referring to myself as privileged was a sense of gratitude and not arrogance!

So are you wanting to know how to spot someone who is privileged or how to deal with arrogant people?

The two are not mutually exclusive

I can identify with that too.

Alicante, Spain. (Sometimes in Wales)

I’d say pretty much all white, male, Europeans with access to the internet are privileged. Doesn’t mean we’re arrogant.

If you think about how non white people have been subjected to overt and covert racism over the years, you’re privileged not to experience that.

If you think about the overt and covert sexism aimed at women all over the world, men are generally privileged not to experience that.

If you’re European, living in Europe, you have access to stuff that people in other parts of the world don’t. Food, transport, generally mild weather, stable(ish!) governments, medical cover, well, ….. the list goes on.

So you and me both are quite privileged compared to billions of other people, purely by virtue of where and when we were born.

Privilege and arrogance aren't the same thing at all to my mind.

Arrogance is a personality trait that exists all on its own.

"I always thought referring to myself as privileged was a sense of gratitude and not arrogance!"

I’m exactly the same, I’m aware of and extremely grateful of the privileges I have and continue to have, my life could be so much worse and I’m fortunate for not having to experience the struggles many have. Me being aware of my privilege keeps me humble, not arrogant.
