What stories/franchises do you think have gone on too long?

I can't think of any specific examples, but I feel a general ennui about a lot of franchises. Corporations keeping things safe rather than experimenting, exploring new things. Expecting us to take their mass marketed palatable beige bilge and be happy. I'd rather abstain. |

I think there's space in classics, for every generation or so to reimagine them. I don't know much about the Lord of the Rings as a franchise, I'm speaking in general terms. "
I agree, or we wouldn't get new imaginings of Shakespeare. But the desire to milk every last iota of IP related to a story - to the extent of mangling it out of all recognition, and riding roughshod over what made it special in the first place - is excessive greed. |

Ahhh that's a good point, actually. There were some gems after. The French Mistake is also up there with one of the best episodes of the whole series. |

Once they did what they did to Glenn I was done 😢 but yeah I think up to the end of season 4 was quality, I really liked David Morrissey as the Governor in that season, and after that it just got steadily further and further downhill. |

Alien & Aliens were both perfect in their own right, as much as one was a sequel to the other, they were different ends of their genre and smashed it for their own reason.
....Everything since in that franchise just doesn't come close.

Alien is my fave movie ever and for me it is just a perfect scifi horror, and I always cause controversy for this, but I prefer Alien 3 to Aliens 🤷🏻♀️ agree Alien Resurrection is trash tho, and Prometheus and Covenant felt like very different films and not really part of the Alien universe. I quite enjoyed Romulus but it wasn't groundbreaking. |

I agree too, but I don't see that with Rings of Power. I've found it to be great story-telling. And it really brought characters like Sauron, Gandalf, Elrond and Galadriel 😍 - to life.
I grew up loving Tolkien, so I get the sentiment being expressed, but I think perhaps people are being a bit well... precious. |

As a James Bond fan, I ‘d have to say James Bond. They should have stopped after Daniel Craig’s Casino Royale.
Star Trek. Chris Pine as Kirk just never worked for me.
Dr Who. It all went downhill after David Tennant left.

I think the Chucky franchise has gone on WAY too much. The first one was amazing & I'm glad they did a scene to show the origin of the whole thing, but to me? They should've stopped making them after 'Seed of Chucky'. |

That's parallel universes caused by too much time travelling.
And on that note I'll nominate "The Flash" TV series. First season was good but season 2 seemed like a bit of a rehash, and degenerated after that.

The “Alien” franchise has gone on way too long.
It looked like it was about to get interesting when Ridley detoured into a creation story with Prometheus - his idea for those movies sounded great (he was going to explore the idea of god, heaven and hell). But then the studio cancelled that idea and we got pulled back into people running from aliens again. |
