Temporarily unhiding my anonymity with a public video. Don't look if you are squeamish!!
Went to Portugal two weeks ago. Head cold. Ears didn't pop. Result...chronic ear infection and the video shows my ear drums being cut to fly back home.
Hospital on Monday and can't hear a thing .
Outside of FAB my main hobby is playing in a band

"From someone who has ear infections constantly.
Only relief - paramol.
Salt in a sock put it in microwave to draw out infection.
Hot water bottle.
Good luck.. they’re hell
Thank you x"
Trying the hot water bottle technique now x |

Ouch! Can be really hard to equalise the pressure in your ears when you have a cold but you have to do it, it will go if you push hard enough! Suffered with my left for a long time and considering having a grommet put in to keep it equalised |

Mine burst right ear,a few years ago when I had an infection the pressure building up was unbelievable and the pain
When it burst it was like I'd been shot in the head, hearing has never fully recovered and constant tinnitus. |

I had what you had done the video, but only on one side.
They put a small hole in the eardrum to see if it would relieve pressure and crackling sounds etc.
(It turns out that when I had an mri of my sinuses that that's where the problem seems to be coming from and not from the ear part itself...but all these things are connected I guess. I'm still getting treatment for it.)
Your ear drums will prob heal over at around the 10 day mark...At around 2 weeks they'll probably be back to how they normally were and the skin will have fully grown back...( i think the eardrum is basically a thin piece of skin) I recall feeling deaf and somewhat disoriented for about a week though. |

Til the ear drum is healed you will have a loss, it heals pretty quickly though if looked after, just follow the docs advice and you should be fine and make sure to follow up with appointments to check it's healed fully.
Worst case if it doesn't heal they may offer surgery to fix it if they think it's an option. |
