"I was puzzled why he was previously on a life support machine. If God was calling him, why did he want to delay going ?"
Save it for their biggest weekend….
Also… having had pneumonia… it’s a bitch to try and recover from |

"A genuinely humble man who hated the trappings of his office. A reformer.
RIP. "
I was brought up Catholic, though I am now an atheist and don't much like organised religion... I agree he was indeed a reformer and a change from what had come before him. I do hope whoever is elected next continues to modernise the Church and move them away from conservative Catholicism, but I have my doubts. |

In the old days when a pope died. Rome went quite lawless like a kind of purge. Wealthy houses would hire bodyguards to protect them and lots of people would take this opportunity to settle old disputes and vendettas.

The RCC had a Dominican and his inflexible orthodoxy, its just lost a Franciscan and his work with the poor. Given the moral and political influence a Pope can exercise, and given the state of the world with Trump and Putin, I hate to say it but it needs …a Jesuit Pope. Someone who will bang heads together and get the Church more politically militant. |

Francis was the first Jesuit pope.. I don’t think they are choosing two in a row
This is what I liked about Francis… it wasn’t just minorities he was a champion of.. it was also women in general
Apparently even just yesterday he was giving the US vice president an earful about compassion for people
It needs a to a moderniser… he showed how a pope can be relevant in a changing world |

Do you consider women to be a minority ?"
I was thinking the same, they make up 50% of the population! |

He wasn't saying women are a minority, he was saying alongside minorities he also championed women. "it wasn't just" "it was also".. Etc etc |

"I’m glad he’s gone"
Why? In terms of progress he did a lot. Nothing changes quickly in the RCC church after all, caught between conservatism and more liberal voices it must be tough to negotiate. I think given this he navigated well 🤷♀️ |

This…. Sorry for the confusion, you lot can be a quick bunch!!
I mean that he actually put a lot of women (sisters and nuns) in higher up authority positions, rather than just looking at them as complementary pieces..
But yes… I think he was a great leader in terms of issues regarding poverty for example, and wasn’t afraid to criticise if necessary….. |

A modernising Pope who started to look at the issue of sexual abuse within the church; but who did block some reforms.
What they will elect next is anyones guess, as there are some backward thinking, popular candidates |

❤️, a great Pope and a great man. I think he did a lot for marginalised and opressed groups of people and brought the church to those who had felt neglected for a long time |

"He'll just be replaced by another clown who protects paedos. "
Actually he did a lot to abolish those rules which had previously protected clergy via pontifical secrecy and was very outspoken about this issue. |

"When the Pope dies is it considered a promotion or has he been fired?
God moves in mysterious ways apparently "
I am sure he will end up being a saint so I suppose it will be a promotion eventually… |
