Hi all… just after some advice from ladies who have had gone through the same as me.

I had a total hysterectomy plus bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy last week and just wondered who could advise me on wether I should go down the the whole HRT route or just try to see it out.

I had been in peri menopause for 3 years (nights sweats, hair loss and weight gain mostly) but had to have the whole lot taken away due to health reasons.

Been told I will now be in full blown menopause now and should consider my next steps.

Many thanks

I had a complete hysterectomy last July, everything removed including my cervix. I woke up the next day completely covered in sweat and was told to start HRT immediately as surgical menopause is so sudden and severe. I’ve had my HRT changed 4 times now since the op, but think I have it sorted now.

It was a no brainer for me at 42, I didn’t know all the other symptoms of menopause before the op as I was supposed to keep my ovaries but the couldn’t be saved so I hadn’t done a lot of research on menopause beforehand. Apart from night sweats, mood swings and brain fog, I really wasn’t aware of anything else. The hardest symptom for me to get under control so far is the joint pain. I’ve been in constant pain since the surgery, especially my knees, hands and my elbows.

There is a UK hysterectomy fb page that has a huge amount of practical posts and tips and advice, I joined it last year and it’s been a saviour when you think of random questions in the middle of the night

Thank you.. I will look into that fb page you suggested.

Like you, had a total one including tubes, ovaries and cervix.

I was suffering from the night sweats previously so I’m kinda used to them, but I suffer from arthritis so it’s the whole bone density issues that I’m more concerned about now I’m not producing estrogen.

I had my original hrt script from the surgeon, then I got it changed by my gp, then I had to had a cuff repair surgery in November with a different surgeon and he changed my script again, and suggested I go to a menopause specialist 🙄 and she changed the script again, so it’s definitely not a one size fits all type of deal. Out of all the health professionals I saw, I would highly recommend the menopause specialist as they will take base bloods from you and monitor your oestrogen levels etc

Definitely Hrt we need our hormones for so much. Topical oestrogen is important too so don't forget to ask for that also.
