Help with mascara

I need help on how to apply mascara, i have Essential Tremors so i'm very shaky and find it really difficult to put on mascara, i stab my eye, my face, wipe it all over the place trying to apply it, especially to my left eye.

Does anyone else have this problem and any tips on how to put it on ?

I mostly have my eye lashes tinted but it doesn't last very long so really need to be better with mascara

Perhaps try holding the brush as steady as you can right the tips of the lashes... then quickly blink your lashes through the brush

I have no experience in this at all but could it help if you rest your elbow on something so you’re only really holding your forearm?

A few ideas there, I'm not surenif she covers this but have you tries resting your elbow on a table etc? I'm not sure how much that would help?

I've also just read whilst finding this popping the wand in a hair tie on your wrist to help with steadiness.. might be worth a try?

Would resting your elbow on a solid surface help?

Cotswolds

You can get mascara shields that you either stick on above /below your lashes or a plastic guard version you hold. This then allows you to just apply the mascara and it won't transfer onto your skin/smudge and doesn't matter how messy you are as it won't go past the guard.

Amazon have different versions

I'd say eyelash lift & tint,if done well it should last 6 weeks

I don't have this problem, I don't wear make up, outside of Halloween.

but I do have terrible handwriting, so I get the frustration.

Your question might be best answered by an occupational therapist, as they deal with this sort of question all of the time.

Different conditions: granted, but who's to say you can't copy these sort of techniques? (Think which condition shares the same experience as yourself, then hunt down the charity's forums for advice.). Good luck

Thank you for the suggestions. I do have my elbow on the dressing table to keep as still as possible but it doesn't help.

I will try the bobble idea and moving my lashes rather than the brush.

I have my eye lashes tinted approx every 5 weeks but my hair grows so fast , my eye lashes too i presume, that after 3 weeks they need doing again but i can't afford to have them done that often

I have essential tremors too. I think using two hands is the suggestion I have. In particular, grabbing one hand by the wrist with the other to steady it

I've looked on a Parkinsons website and they also suggest a shield as was suggested here so i'm off to amazon to have a look

Thank you

There was something on Dragons Den a while ago... Just looked the name up and the company is called Human Beauty. They did a range of products that were very well received no only for the type but ergonomics

There will be a video around if you google dragons den human beauty, make up. It'll give you an idea of them before any purchase as opposed to a simple website

When I have the shakes, I rest my elbow on the sink and apply it, I don't know if that's any help for you.

may i ask if you also have trouble with the eyeliner pencil or pen.

as goes for the mascara and eyeliner my advice for shaky hands is dont put it on as eyes are most important.

alternative is use 2 different eyeshadows one near the eyes and another so it gives the effect of the eyeliner

Hi

I don't use eyeliner, far to sharp and pointy looking. Good idea about the 2 different eye shadows, i'll try it.

Thank you everyone

I use a plastic mascara shield and MAC travel mascara.

The travel mascara have shorter wands which are easier to keep steady.

I hope you find something which helps x

I know it's costly but what about having semi permanent lashes done?

this video shows eye shadows to good usage all by using brushes

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqBBVY-yxpw

you can pause it just before she applies mascara as the affect is already there

I've not read it all so apologies if this has been mentioned already.

The pre-glued lash clusters are really easy, go under your own lashes and usually last at least 5 days even through sleeping showering etc. Lola's Lashes are my favourite. Your daughter would probably need to help you put the on but then you're sorted for a week.

As well as all the other tips above, maybe try tubing mascara, it doesn’t smudge as easily and provides really beautiful definition to boot! My favourites are Maybelline sky high and Charlotte Tilbury Exaggereyes

I do take my time and i've been practicing for years but because i shake so much (essential tremors) that doesn't help, practicing doesn't reduce the shaking
