Drink spiking has horrifyingly become almost common place (my daughter was possibly a victim of this)
Have you been affected by this awful trend?

I haven't but I have close friends who have.
I actually saw a video recently of a social experiment at a US college of people dropping gummy sweets (eg haribo) or sherbet into people's drinks to demonstrate how easy it can be to get spiked.
Really is kind of sad. |

Yes...especially as (i feel at least) the idea of drink spiking is seen as somehow trivial...or...almost accepted by society...weird. |

I’ve been in bars and clubs and noticed men hovering close to woman and looking over their drinks. Absolutely vile and I always make a point of telling the possible victim and saying it quite loudly too, and of course tell the bar staff. These “men” usually leave quite quickly then |

"So sorry for your daughter. So glad it wasn't a thing when I was a student. "
Thank you....the worst of it was it was unprovable...which leaves things hanging...won't go into detail.
But this is how predators prevail. |

Sadly this has happened to me…..not when I was younger but when I was 46. Not sure what they were trying to achieve, luckily my husband knew something was wrong and took me home but I was ill for a couple of days.
It was a horrible experience and I’m sorry your daughter has had that happen to her xx |

Not me personally, but it happened to a mate at one of his friends parties. Not sure what he was given, but he went psychotic, saying that we were after him and wanted to kill him.
It took 5 of us at once to overpower him, he wasn't a big lad either. |

Sort of.
Years ago when I was at Uni one of my housemates liked a drink, but she didn't like to be the only one d*unk and when she went to the bar she had a nasty habit of dropping something extra into people's drinks. |

I was years ago. Ended up in hospital for over a week. I ordered a drink, took a sip then went for a dance, came back, downed it and that's the last thing I remember..apparently I started being really sick. Thankfully my brother and sister were at hand and called an ambulance x |

I’m sorry to hear that this has happened to your daughter, absolutely vile.
I’ve had experience, just keep an eye on your daughter for the next 24hrs and make sure she’s hydrating on water. Try not too have any fizzy drinks or foods that have a high sugar content. |

Yes, it happened to me at the end of last year. Awful experience. I’ll save the details, but it’s pretty scary not knowing what happened |

Not me (obvs) but happened to a friend on a works night out, several years ago now. Horrible, we didn't know what was going on with her.
Of course these days the mind should automatically assume a spiked drink. Honestly these assholes should be force-fed overdoses.
And ladies, if your drink leaves your line of sight even for a second - assume it's been tampered with and get a fresh one. Not worth the risk. |

Wife had hers spiked a few years back, some guy claimed to be her brother and was telling bouncers she was d*unk and needed to leave. Thankfully she was out with my sister who noticed what was happening and bought her home. They both had their phones go missing that night too |

Yes just the once thankfully, I was lucky I was with a group of friends, I don't remember much but I'd only had two drinks and remember dancing away as usual then the next second I was crazy dizzy and couldn't see straight luckily I grabbed a friend to say I don't feel good and all of them came outside with me, wouldn't allow anyone near me, got me home and we had all 12 of us fast asleep on my floor.
I'd hate to have known what would have happened if I was alone. |

I don’t honestly know but I do suspect I was.
I’m a person who can drink quite a lot and one night I left a pub to go to another, I was sober, went to the other pub and ordered my usual drink, the next thing I woke up about 12 miles away outside another pub and still to this day don’t know what happened |

I don’t believe it’s almost common place at all, sounds like you’re getting a distorted version of reality by the news you read
I’ve travelled in some places frequently where it’s meant to be common, I have three daughters , we don’t know anyone who’s been a victim of this |

Sounds like you have a distorted reality. You know three people it hasn’t happened to. Therefore it’s not common. Right. |

We can’t be 100% sure but we think Becky was spiked a couple of years ago, at a swinger social of all places.
Now, I’ve seen Becky drinking and this was way different. Totally incoherent and not even able to stand or make sense speaking. Ot took 4 separate cabs to get her home as she was so ill.
It’s never happened since, even after some heavy nights and the memory of it still gives her issues.
Not going to name the event as it was held in a pub and could’ve been anyone but we are cautious now. |

100% sure I was spiked in Magaluf in the early 90s so the barman could make a move on the girl I was with. I woke up in his flat upstairs with absolutely no recollection of what had happened from about two drinks prior to wanting to go home. I never knew what actually happened but I know that something was wrong and the girl I was with wasn’t the same person the rest of the holiday |

My daughter was. Ended up in hospital. Her friend was spiked with a needle and collapsed in a night club. I was blissfully unaware of this but it's horrifying and criminal what some men do to women, presumably to get their jollies. |

Considering the amount of people in this thread that have experienced this I’m not sure I agree with your statement at all |

Sadly not. For girl students...

73% of disabled students have experienced sexual violence, with 54% experiencing sexual assault.
26% of male respondents experienced sexual violence at university.
Only 6% of victims reported their experience of sexual violence to their university.
Just 2% of students who reported sexual violence were satisfied with the university’s process.
57% of incidents involved a perpetrator known to the victim, with 75% of those perpetrators being another student.
31% of students felt pressured into doing something sexual during their time at university.
28% of sexual violence incidents occurred in halls of residence, with 24% happening at social events.
Only 47% of students believe that groping is considered sexual assault at their university.

"Ssaw it happen a few weeks ago i call i accidently knocks the girls drink over and got her another tu lads that did it judt ldughed and walk out"
Why did you not report it to the management and they would hopefully got the law involved.
It's a criminal offence that carries upto a 10 year prison sentence. What you did, admiral has it was meant the perpetrators got away and could find another victim. |

Yes, when I was 18/19. Luckily, I was at one of our local pubs with my partner (at the time), and some friends. They took me home and stayed the night, to watch over me. I remember being in the pub, had 3 drinks and a good time. Then, waking up with the biggest headache of my life, and was told I was nasty to my friends and partner before falling asleep. Anything between those times is non-existant.
It's scary that no matter how careful you are with your drinks, they still have other ways! |

Yes, it's happened twice. Once at a club, where the door staff refused to believe I was anything other than d*unk, and threw me out.
I'm lucky that the local taxis knew me and I got taken home.
Second was at a fab social event a few years ago. |

Wow! I'm so shocked that in this small community so many others have had similar experiences...I won't respond to each of you directly but my heart goes out for you...and I appreciate also the support towards my daughter.
I just don't understand the mind of the kind of person who would drug another for kicks, or for the pleasure of abusing a virtually unconcious person.
The effects go beyond the physical and can have a life long psychological affect on those affected.
For someone's unthinking (or worse cold calculating) actions.
Makes my blood boil. (Long rant deleted).

The majority of posts on here have been about or from people who have actually experienced this first hand.
It is not heresay or exaggeration.
The fact that you and your daughters have not experienced it personally does not mean that it isn't happening. |

Happened to me as a teen - had been working all night on a pub and then we went to a nightclub (yeah I'm that old ). Was drinking my first (and only) alcoholic drink (a g+t I think) and I was like a slow motion d*unk person, with a group of men surrounding me -vone of them inappropriately touched me - I slapped him (again 'in slow motion') they all laughed and I staggered out, couldn't understand what was wrong with me. No idea how I got home. |

Hi OP, Yes I had my drink spiked many years ago when I was a late teenager by a well enough Band member at the time.
I hadn't many drinks but I totally blacked out & several hours later I awoke to him having smelling salts under my nose in a hotel room Yes Fact.
It took me awhile to come around. I was naked & felt the after affects of vaginal sexual penetration.
I don't remember a thing of what happened, I just remember being at the after party after he performed in his band & in his company & he buying me drinks & about 12 hours later being woken up with foul smelling salts.
I never did anything about it & just dressed very quickly & legged it out of hotel room, it actually took me awhile to realise what exactly happened & I was groggy for the whole day like in a sedated trance.

I've taken drinks away from women when I've seen other women put something in it.
I'm just saying anyone can do this so don't just expect it to be a man. Everyone need to be careful out there |

My friend was spiked, taken back to some dodgy house and had his belongings, cash, cards, camera, phone and wallet taken by two women. So yes it does happen. He didn’t tell anyone because he was embarrassed by it. We were together on a night out and I went to the cash machine, came back and he had vanished. He didn’t even tell me what happened until a few days later (he initially said it was two guys who took his stuff in the street).
So yeah plenty of women do it. |

"Yes...especially as (i feel at least) the idea of drink spiking is seen as somehow trivial...or...almost accepted by society...weird."
I don't think it's necessarily seen as trivial.
Legally it counts as poisoning (and there are serious implications if there is an allergic reaction or interaction with someone's medication)
It's also often associated with sexual assaults which is serious as all hell.
If individuals don't take it seriously it will be assuming, "I'm really careful. It couldn't happen to me"
In the same way that people assume lots of martial arts or carrying a gun will prevent them getting mugged. Until they get mugged.
It's why thing like the video I saw of people dropping jelly babies into people's drinks without anyone noticing makes such an important point.
Hope your daughter is safe and nothing too bad happened
