Morning lovely fabbers
What a glorious morning of sunshine
When you train, gym / run / cycle etc …do you have someone to train with ? Or are you a solo trainer?
I’m finding it more difficult recently for motivation…. I need someone to drag to to it and through it

Bit of a mixture.
For as a gym user of 40 off years on and off I've trained alone and with a buddy both work well but I've always found it best to train with someone who is pretty much on same level or it could be difficult also you both have to be committed to the program.
I used to run with a running club, swim with a swimming club and same with cycling and triathlon all great to do as group sessions but very much enjoy training alone.
I think having targets or goals are more of a motivator than a training partner.

"Solo trainer. I went to the gym once with a friend and there was too much taking.
I prefer to go in, do my work and leave."
I’m very much the same ….but it’s just that motivation for each other to get there ha |

"We do the 5k Parkrun every Saturday with 200-300 others. It's a great way to get chatting to others and is good for motivation. We're one of only a few couples at our gym that work out together "
I like the sound of that |

" I train alone but think a partner would push me further/harder andvice versa. Chat in-between sets etc.
My 121 PT sessions I do chat inbetween sets etc"
See I don’t want the chat ha …. Just the motivation |

I’ve always struggled with exercising alone. I used to do classes until I joined a CrossFit gym almost 4 years ago. It’s the only thing that I have kept up consistently. The workouts are fine for you. You all train together and everyone supports and encourages everyone 💪🏽 |

Maybe I need to become one of those cross fitter types 😋 |

I mainly prefer to train alone. S and I enjoy going to the gym together, but we’ll go off and do our separate thing. The only difference for me is pole - everyone in my studio is very supportive when someone nails a move and I do find that pretty cool.

In terms of the gym I occasionally train with a friend as that’s often the only time we see each other.
The vast majority of the time I train on my own. Headphones on. No mingling with others 🎧 |

We both go to the gym at the same time but do our own workout / program.
Never had a training partner aside from that, find it easier to train alone. Can time my rest, don't have to wait if they are running late etc.
Motivation has never been an issue |

Completely alone.
I'll listen to a lecture, when on the treadmill..
I used to have a couple of friends I did hikes with. They're married with kids now.
So go on those alone now too. |

I'm either on my own, or in a group fitness class. Either way, there's no chitchat - it's all about putting in the effort and getting it done.
On the few occasions I've cycled with a friend I've felt like we chatted more than we worked, so I much prefer to keep it solo. |

A bit of both really l, I'm a crossfitter so group classes 4 times a week, in a group of up to 18, of varying abilities.
But then if I go to the gym outside of that I go alone.
When I go walking or running my partner in crime is my dog! She's the best training partner ever! |

I stopped going to the gym years ago as it eats in to my time too much when you factor in the prep time +travel there +gym time+ shower+travel back. Hours.
I do my own thing at home now.
I hate chitchat when working out so a buddy isn't for me. I like to switch off and tune in to the workout and how it feels.
If I get burnout and bored I take a break or change up the routine. Find some new moves to make it challenging again. |

"My cats
They don't let me forget to go walking with them. "
I did a home workout when I was dogsitting. He thought I was playing a game and kept trying to go under me and licking my ears when I was on the floor 😄 |

"If I had some local friends at gym I’d train at same time I guess but my main gym is quite young so I tend not to chat too much to others "
You’re only 43 that’s still young
Has the way you train changed as you’ve aged? Is that the difference between you and the young ones at your gym? |

I it all solo. And the days when I don't feel motivated I just get on with it. People complain about motivation all the time but they forget to mention discipline. Nobody feels like going to work every day but they do because there are consequences for not going |

The community is something else. And what they have done for me personally is just amazing. I went through a tough time last year with my son being ill. They held a huge fundraiser and raised just over £4000 to send us on holiday |

"I need a gym buddy just for the motivation to actually get there
If only there wasn’t so much distance … "
It's my biggest issue. I have family members who would come with me but they are hours away 😢
I've booked into classes tue and wed this week just to commit and make sure I go |

I don’t mind training with a partner the odd time but they always end up letting you down eventually so I would never commit to training with another person.
I usually prefer headphones in, look angry so nobody approaches me and go hard and get out as soon as possible. |

I do think the people that rely on motivation to get to the gym never really achieve anything. You need discipline. I can’t remember who said this but nobody ever goes to the gym and then regrets it later. Just get it done and I guarantee you’ll feel better after. |

I train alone.. all the things i learned are from things I've picked up that may work for me.. more trial and error really.. especially going out for a run.. the idea running alongside someone that wants to chat would get on my tits. I'll put my head phones on, block the world and leave me be |

Having been a solo trainer for years, it is an extra challenge and can be really easy to slip.
Things I've found helpful.
In the gym, having a PT. Even if it's just one of the staff you see once a month or every 2 weeks. It's a physical human being who can keep you honest.
Something I've found remarkably helpful is using classes. It's something I never thought would actually be helpful, but tried it on the advice of a PT. On the days where you don't want to train, sometimes it's nice just to grab your gym gear and a water bottle and be told what to do for 45 mins.
Similarly with teams, clubs, park run etc. It builds friendships, accountability and reduces mental load.
I've tried the electronic version but it's not been as effective.
Lastly, having a target.
I can't just 'go to the gym'. I need a reason to train, and something that shapes what I'm doing while I'm there.
So I've done a marathon, played team sports and these days I do OCRs.
So at the moment I'm doing a lot of circuits and steady state cardio.
Hope this helps

I’ve had several over the years most end up annoying me in some way that makes me go back to training solo
Main annoyances are (preface this with majority of my training partners have been good friends asking to train with me to help them get into shape)
Not taking it seriously
Trying to modify training times/days to suit their personal schedule
I have a very sensitive nose and one lad smelled like hotdog water at times
Belching and farting at any time during the session nothing fucking worse than gasping for air between reps of stiff leg deadlift near the end of set trying to grind a few more out and some filthy cunt farting next to you
Now I’ll never have a training partner ever again

Solo, I just like to get in and out of the gym and do my thing. I don’t understand why you need motivation to go to the gym, if you don’t enjoy it, don’t go. If you do enjoy it then nothing gets in your way. |

Grumpy ! 🤷♂️
I love a good fart at the gym. It’s the best bit. |
