Howdy fabbers
Now the weather is warmer …. There’s more people out on their bikes …. But so many don’t wear helmets …
What’s your thoughts on this ? Do you think they should be compulsory ?
Do you cycle? Do you wear a helmet?
Just curious |

I don’t understand why it’s compulsory for a motorcyclist to wear a helmet but not for a cyclist.
You can get a nasty head injury or killed at any speed whether it’s a bicycle or a motorcycle, so helmets should be mandatory across both. |

I like this thread it’s a good place for anti cycling enthusiasts to really come together and pray for a safer and more enjoyable commute 😂

Always wear a helmet but love going commando in a tight pair of lycra when cycling |

Yeah as a cyclist (helmet wearer) and mountain biker I know the dangers of what can happen when it comes to crashing, I have the scarred helmets to prove it.
It amazes me how they're not legally required on quads and motorbikes either |

They are on motorbikes, but not on quads or bicycles for some reason. |

You live close to Box Hill? Oh how lucky you are! Gosh, so dreamy. I love it. Around here there are lots of beautiful winding countryside roads and it's popular with the MAMILs. So very happy. 😍😍 |

I’m a cyclist (as well as a driver) and no I don’t wear a helmet (but almost exclusively cycle off road)
Are off road cyclists still classed as twats btw?
Just asking because I totally give a shit about other people’s opinions & will obviously give up cycling without a moment’s hesitation if so. |

Please do … buy a Motorbike and wear a helmet
This = the solution and enjoy ! |

I have been an occasional cyclist for many years before cycle helmets were readily available. If you come off a motorbike the speeds involved are lightly to be much higher & more risk of serios injury . I will continue to ride at a moderate speed without the encumbrance of a helmet |

I'm inclined to agree but as a biker with 39+years riding I may be slightly biased in my opinion |

Does being off road mean less chance of falling off? No chance of head injury |

I have been serious considering that option…. But I always wonder if I’ll be a good rider |

Ah ok so speed is the danger not the impact of head with hard surface |

"Helmets should be compulsory "
Agreed!
I fell off my bike whilst going over a Cattle Grid; my head smashed against the metal bars breaking my helmet but leaving my head uninjured. Wear them... please!
I'm always confused when I see families with young children out cycling together with the kids wearing helmets but not the parents; I think that this must give the kids really mixed messages about the dangers of cycling... The older you get, the more stronger your skull gets, to a point where it's tougher than Tarmac and steel?
Interestingly enough, in the Netherlands where almost the entire population cycle, less than 10% wear helmets; is this because cycling is safer over there??? |

In my case cycling these days mainly involves canal towpaths & disused railway lines, so I’ve determined the chance of head injury is somewhat less likely…though I’ll concede there is always ‘a chance’ of it. However, having considered the risks I’m happy to go riding without a helmet.
If I was out on the road, or even downhilling on forest trails on an MTB, then I’d be wearing one. |

Oh and for the record:
Some cyclists (but not all) are twats.
Some pedestrians (but not all) are twats.
Some drivers (but not all) are twats.
Some motorcyclists (but not all) are twats.
Hope this helps.
Have a nice day, you twats |

Most of the time the cyclist on the bloody pavement anyway spend millions on cycle lanes that are hardly ever used and some of the riding I’ve seen I think they should have to pass a test and have a licence etc. to be on the road |

I used to cycle a lot, not anymore. The new Highway rules pissed me right off when they came in. They allow belligerent assholes to block traffic while they're ready to record the drivers who are taxed far too much to pay for the shit roads getting angry. If they don't wear a helmet they're stupid, but a lot of them are anyway. |

yes if my head impacts a hard service at 5 MPH its less lightly to do damage than at 50 MPH |
