"Squat 205kg. Nearly killed me and I’ll never get higher but I’m happy with that.
Squats are a killer 😅"
I’m being smarter with my training these days. I’m going for longevity over big numbers because the injuries started to pile up. |

Exactly that mate got to train sensibly can still get the same result going lighter more control and concentration on muscle |

I’ve been doing a lot of research into training methods and what I’m doing at the minute seems to be working so I’ll keep it up until I get bored and feel like switching up again. |

Can I ask why without a belt? I put my back out warming up once and haven’t done a squat or deadlift without a belt since. |

As a relative lightweight it terms of squats and deadlifts how does the belt help? |

Hats off!
I've been 3kg short of a double bodyweight squat for ages. Not sure I'll get there with this aging body, but slow and steady wins the race so not quite giving up yet!

You brace your core which keeps your back intact when lifting heavy. I won’t even squat more than a plate each side without it. |

That was my aim so I just ate everything in site until I did it. I should have never been anywhere near that bodyweight but that’s what it took to hit my target. |

Ha! Props too on the weight loss - I know if I'd never lose it if I put it on, so just kind of hover where it feels about right. Should really drop a couple of kgs to be leaner, but I'm lazy. |

Turning up and consistently going. Always struggled with motivation to actually go and train, so having been consistent for the last 4 months is a result I am proud of. Still look skinny as fuck, but it's a work in progress. |

A weightlifting belt helps you lift more weight primarily by increasing intra-abdominal pressure (IAP) and stabilizing your spine.
When you wear a belt and brace your core (take a deep breath and push your abdomen out), the belt gives your abdominal muscles something to press against.
This pressure acts like an internal airbag, supporting your spine from the inside.
Think of it like inflating a balloon in a closed container — it makes the whole structure more rigid.
Result: Your spine is more supported, reducing the risk of flexion (bending) under heavy loads.
I just never liked wearing a belt and wanted the strength to be carried out in the real world |

"130kg squat
160kg deadlift
85kg bench press
Paltry numbers compared to others on here but tell skinny 21 year old me that I'd be lifting that much and he'd be thrilled! "
I’d say your bench is the only thing that’s not that impressive in that list and there’s no shame in having a weaker muscle group. For example, skinny 16 year olds can bicep curl more than me and no matter what I do I can’t lift more. |

Ahhh thanks! Chest has always been a weak point for me to be fair and at 75kg, even though it's more than my bodyweight, my technique is just all over the place 😂 |

You’re still hitting the benchmarks though. Bench 1xBW, Squat 1.5xBW and Deadlift 2xBW. That puts you in the top 5% for strength according to Google. |

I think social media makes it look like everyone is lifting ridiculous numbers when in reality only a couple of people in each gym actually are. Just keep doing what you’re doing mate. |

"302.5kg squat
300kg deadlift
197.5kg bench
All in competition
Very interesting that your squat is more than your deadlift! "
Deadlift always been the one I struggled with the most.
Not that unusual for squat to overtake deadlift once numbers get higher. I know a good few guys with squats over 400kg with deadlifts of 370kg to 390kg. |

There's around 230-240 lifters with 400kg squats in competition I think. |

I've just checked, if you include all lifters across equipped, raw etc. it's just over 1200 lifters world wide. |

250kg squat for 5 reps.
I was never about lifting huge weight, more about being in control of the weight and trying alternative training techniques.
For example in the early 90's one program I did was called 100's.
You picked a weight that allowed you to perform around 80 rep's to failure then just kept going to reach 100 rep's.
This would generally involve only one set and was incredibly difficult the most painful being leg extensions, holy shit the pump was incredible. |

Seriously try it, but you have to use a weight that is light enough but not so light it feels easy, the last 15 rep's are like some sort of medieval torture. |

A long time ago (before countless injuries through strong man and rugby) I’d have to say it’s got to be 85kg dumbell seated shoulder press for 4-5 reps . Used to love to lift heavy but couldn’t walk a mile on a treadmill without dying !! |

None of my lifts are overly impressive, my favourite pb was probably doing 8 chin ups with 30kg attached while weighing 105g bodyweight, was done in leisure centre gym where most people couldn’t do a single chin up so used to get stared at by half the gym while doing it ha this was pre heart attack never been as strong since having it |

I take it that's 42.5 kg on each side.
I do 75kgs on chest for 10 reps but not sure I could do them on shoulders 😳 |

110kg hip thrust yesterday.
Proud of myself considering 12 months ago I had never stepped inside a gym and I was 7 stone overweight.
1 stone to loose to hit my goal now 😀 |

Bench 165kg
Decline bench 175kg
Incline bench 150kg
Squat 185kg (13 reps)
Dumbell should press 65kg per hand (5 reps)
Deadlift 230kg (reps)
Close grip bench 150kg
Dead stop bench 150kg
Hack squat 230kg reps
Haven't been close to these numbers for squat/bench due to an injury.
Bench 150kg , haven't squatted for a while but box squat 140kg for 15 reps |
