I saw this quote and it would be interesting to see what you think of it, is it a cliché or is it true? Have you been in that situation where you have been loving the wrong person, how soon or late did you realise it?
I wonder if all that love one gave to the wrong person will find its way back to you through the right one too? |

Love isn’t some rare, precious metal to be hoarded or rationed out to only the most ‘worthy’. It’s not a finite resource. It’s expansive, complex, and shows up in countless ways, not just in romantic relationships. It’s fierce, soft, messy and can break you open and STILL be worth it.
Saying “love doesn’t hurt, loving the wrong person hurts” is a lovely little comfort blanket, but it isn’t true. Love hurts. Not just romantic love, either. A parent who’s buried a child didn’t love the wrong person. A man clutching the pillow where his late wife used to sleep didn’t choose badly. A student aching for home hasn’t misdirected their love.
Saying “love doesn’t hurt, loving the wrong person hurts” is a lovely little comfort blanket, but it isn’t true. Love hurts and that pain isn’t a sign that something was wrong. It’s often the proof that something mattered.
So no, love and loving a person isn’t wrong, it’s just proof something mattered to you even if the recipient didn’t feel the same way back.

Someone once posted this on here OP.
It struck such a chord with me I read it at a funeral.
Love.
It should not be painful.
Love should be patient and kind.
It should not envy or boast.
It is not arrogant or rude.
It does not insist on its own way.
It is not irritable or resentful.
It does not rejoice at wrongdoing…
but rejoices with the truth.
Love bears all things…
believes all things…
hopes all things…
endures all things.
Love never ends.
Love is the common denominator in how we relate to others…or to ourselves.
Love is a tricky word.
It’s most often understood as an intense feeling of deep affection.
It can also transcend a feeling or emotion.
If it’s painful, you would have to question if it’s love at all.

It's a cliche.
Love is within the giver.
It's not possible to give it to the wrong person.
If a relationship isn't for you then you should remove yourself but it is NEVER the love that hurts.
That is such an oxymoron. |

"If we’re doing poetry, sonnet 116. 🐐 "
Worth it in full.
Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments; love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove.
O no, it is an ever-fixèd mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wand'ring bark
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.
Love's not time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come.
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom:
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved. |

Surely what hurts is when love isn't reciprocated. I've had relationships that felt like love at the time but when they ended I walked away fairly unscathed because the love had dwindled to nothing.
I've been infatuated with people and muddled those feelings with love but also managed to survive.
But one relationship in particular left me so hurt that I wasn't sure if I ever wanted to do it again. So yeah, I think there is some truth to the OP's observation.

"I don't agree with all of it tho .......
not altering when alteration it finds.... hmmmmmm nope , not in reality."
His opening line knows this though.

He is saying let’s idolise love, not allow imperfections. He is talking from the pov of love, not as an observer.

Surely, love in its truest form, can never hurt, if the reciprocation of the love that is shown is required in order to validate that love, then it is not love that has been given, true love requires nothing, it is purely given. |

The ones you love the most are the ones who hurt you the most if something goes wrong. If there is no love lost then no worries.
However, those who love themselves more than another person get hurt when they have their ego or pride knocked. |

Not to my mind... To me , the opening line can be interpreted as , ' if there are two minds truly joined in love then nothing should prevent their union ...
He goes on to say that it's not love if it changes when who you love changes , that's where he and I part but then ..... he is a romantic |

We don't know until we experience, which gives us the opportunity to know ourselves and what we need and can do. It's unrealistic to expect that we'll be with all partners forever and to always know ourselves. Is there wrong? Or just us experiencing life and love. |
