I've recently just got back from a holiday where it was way too hot not to take my top off which is something I would never publicly do.
Do woman find guys who aren't toned or skinny attractive. Would love to know as after 6 years of no-one going near me physically what it is that's so unacceptable about my appearance |

You've got a normal body....the low fat chiselled abs look is unrealistic despite being peddled by the media.
It says narcicist with no time for anything but themselves...so not as appealing for women as you think.. |

Haha gym takes 6 hours of my time a week, that’s not exactly so much that it leaves little time for anything else |

How does that rest your case? Six hours out of a whole week is very little.
There’s no need to speak negatively of one body type to support another.

Yes because a simple post explaining how little time the gym actual takes is “main character syndrome”, makes perfect sense…. |

The second paragraph is nonsense. |

The body type i was talking about is not reflected in anyone who has taken offence.
I was talking about the extreme low fat qnd dehydrated Wolverine type bodies that are pushed as ideal. |

Considering we had never heard of each other prior to this exchange how on Earth can I think it’s aimed at me? You made a general statement with no reference to it only being aimed at celebrities, I took zero offence hence the laugh and merely pointed out that the gym doesent take as much time as a lot of people assume |

Well you obviously thought it was aimed at you as you found a need to defend it.
My comment was primarily meant to comfort the op...and I'm really surprised that so many people who consider themselves so highly are butt hurt by it.
I even got an angry DM.
Calm down guys.
It's not about you.

OP, whenever this question comes up, lots of people express a preference for a "Dad bod" (I hate that term!), so I don't think you've got anything to worry about.
Lots of people like lots of different things.
I would also hardly ever take my top off on holiday. Beyond the pool or beach, I don't think there's much need to, even in the heat. But that's just me. |

OP lots of ladies have a preference for dad bods
Personally it’s about the man not the body for me. My husband is a big guy, my partner is the chiselled abs, and I can find any body type attractive.
To the member (members? I haven’t finished reading) who thought it was ok to try and bring down other body types with sweeping generalisations and insults - we don’t do that here. Blowing out someone else’s candle won’t make yours shine any brighter.

From experience and what the mrs has said when she’s met guys on her own, the body type doesn’t matter, it’s what’s between the ears that counts and how they come across, sure you're gunna get those who are only attracted to a specific type, but you’ll find most like to get to know the person not the gym schedule. |

Yeah, i wasn't actually trying to blow anyone's candle out.
I thought i was placacating the op who obviously didn't think much of themselves by comparing it to what i though was a safe extreme media presented version of what a man's body should be.
I couldn't have been more surprised when people owned that tag and came out of the woodwork to be angry and offended.
I had one guy who was built with a huge v shaped chest dm who was so angry he couldn't even type or threaten me properly which reveals a deep insecurity.
The irony is both that none of those people represented the stereotype that I was ridiculing and that those who you would think would be most proud of themselves are just as deeply affected by societal expectations of what a body "should' be.
It illustrates how deeply body dismorphic many of us are...and this is a product of a judgemental society...a reflection of human nature really.
I'm really tall and have been on all sides of judgment...from being a 16 year old six foot six beanpole at 10 stone to a finally proportioned (maybe overproportioned) older chap at nearly 21 stone...and have taken quite a long time to truly not care what others think...so I am the last person who would wish to piss on someone else for their looks.
Be who you are and don't seek to conform to someone else's ideals.

I'm fairly comfortable in my body now, and I just dress accordingly to not show off the bits I am self conscious of.

Not everyone who replied pointing out it’s not ok to be mean about body types thinks it’s about them. Most people just don’t think you have to be negative to be positive.
It’s no different from the people who try to comfort women who ask if they’re too fat by saying no one likes a skinny bitch. It’s not acceptable.
But they do say the best form of defence is attack, right? |

This is true, there is a whole breed of people who feel the need to be offended on behalf of others who just might be so that they can beat their own virtue signalling drum.
The lengths people go to today to be offended is astounding. |

I get that
Body image, dysmorphia and insecurities aren’t the sole playground of the chunky or the tall.
My point was simply to say that we can find ways to big others up without stepping on the toes of someone else.
There’s ways to lift everyone and it can be done without making someone else out to be lesser - in this case you made it out that althletic gym goers were narcissists. Something patently not true.
I’m a big girl, I don’t apologise for my frame and I can still admire a slim body without making them out to be something they’re not.
I guess I just don’t see that we need to hurt others to make someone else feel better |

To the member (members? I haven’t finished reading) who thought it was ok to try and bring down other body types with sweeping generalisations and insults - we don’t do that here. Blowing out someone else’s candle won’t make yours shine any brighter.
I get that
Body image, dysmorphia and insecurities aren’t the sole playground of the chunky or the tall.
I guess I just don’t see that we need to hurt others to make someone else feel better "
Yeah my comment could have been worded better...it was actually meant against the "ideal" bodies projected by the media which have driven body dismorphia in women for years and now men too.
It wasn't a comment on individuals at all. Anyone who takes it upon themselves to be offended is just showcasing their own insecurities...or wearing their personal moral compass as a badge to impress others.
The narcissism thing was misjudged but there is a certain amount of irony in that people who were not referenced in my comment to someone else think that it is all about them. |

"I've recently just got back from a holiday where it was way too hot not to take my top off which is something I would never publicly do.
Do woman find guys who aren't toned or skinny attractive. Would love to know as after 6 years of no-one going near me physically what it is that's so unacceptable about my appearance "
I get a fair amount of compliments on here about my body, but 9 out of 10 people block me when I send a pace pic so makes fuck all difference 😂 |

"You've got a normal body....the low fat chiselled abs look is unrealistic despite being peddled by the media.
It says narcicist with no time for anything but themselves...so not as appealing for women as you think..
Haha gym takes 6 hours of my time a week, that’s not exactly so much that it leaves little time for anything else
I rest my case.
What so 6 hours out of 168 is a lot?
I meant the main character syndrome really.
Yes because a simple post explaining how little time the gym actual takes is “main character syndrome”, makes perfect sense….
The main character aspect was both the fact that you thought i was referring to you and that you took offence at it on behalf of over-abbed celebrities.
Considering we had never heard of each other prior to this exchange how on Earth can I think it’s aimed at me? You made a general statement with no reference to it only being aimed at celebrities, I took zero offence hence the laugh and merely pointed out that the gym doesent take as much time as a lot of people assume
Well you obviously thought it was aimed at you as you found a need to defend it.
My comment was primarily meant to comfort the op...and I'm really surprised that so many people who consider themselves so highly are butt hurt by it.
I even got an angry DM.
Calm down guys.
It's not about you.
Once people resort to the utterly pathetic “butt hurt” accusation you know it’s pointless debating any further, it’s like playing chess with a pigeon who proceeds to knock the pieces over and shit all over the board and strut around like it won the game
Bless!
Stop puffing your chest up and pick up those pieces!
Maybe try draughts..
Perhaps try putting the fork down now and again and you wouldn’t feel the need to make baseless stupid statements about people who can actually be bothered to muster up the effort not to look like a slob
You're having a hard time believing it's not all about you aren't you?
"
The irony of someone with such an inflated sense of their own importance that they assume everyone is offended and “butt hurt” by their comments accusing other of “main character syndrome” |

Someone went to the Alanis Morissette school of irony.
You were offended. You were butt hurt.
You had you nose put out of joint by something that was nothing to do with you and exposed your own insecurities in the process. (Because everything is about you, right?)
It's all a bit too late to repaint it now.
Mind my business and vilify me all you like.
I'm enjoying your hate. |

Let me mansplain (not really)to you what mansplaining is as it is widely misunderstood and just used a blanket way of silencing men.
Mansplaining is an unsolicited patronising explanation to a woman by a man who probably knows less than said woman. It's a bit of a tired expression.
This is not mansplaining as I am responding to your comment, and to disallow me a response just because I'm a man could be described as misandry.
My comment was not mansplaining.
I was not speaking to a woman...I was speaking to a man..the op..
And yes i appeared to speak for all of womankind...perhaps I should have padded out. "In my humble opinion and referring only to the women I have had direct experience of, they are not so shallow as to be totally guided by looks".
But no I didn't...we all generalise in our everyday chat.
So i apologise if I put words into your mouth.

Yet agsin more baseless assumptions fuelled by overly inflated sense of your own importance, you were the one “butt hurt” (what a fucking ridiculous phrase for supposedly grown man to use) by a simple polite message explaining that the gym doesn’t actually take up much time that you felt the need to go on the attack, and I’m the insecure one when you were the one generalising and entire group of people who just happen to be opposite of what you look like secure people don’t feel the need to put others down to make themselves feel better
But go ahead instead of actuslly coming back with anything to counter these points resort to the “butt hurt” and all about you accusation that you gave bleated on about all thread when a normal person would have just said “actually that’s not a great deal of time maybe I was wrong” but that would require actuslly behaving like an adult |

As far as I'm concerned if you are speaking on behalf of women then you are mansplaining.
Thanks for your patronising response though. It really worked a trick! 🚩 |

The lengths people go to today to be offended is astounding."
I think in the main you’re getting confused between expressing an opinion that differs from yours with getting offended.
It’s a public forum and people will share their views, as is the point. |
