Really annoying thing installed when taking a phone update. Took me half an hour to get rid of the blooming thing, unless is still lurking in the background. Had even taken over the power button and had to find out how to how to get it back to do what is meant to rather than get gemini on everytime you press it. I bet some of you love it though. The shape of things to come I suppose, bot control |

Android 16 is about to be released and I assume more AI access will be integrated. It would be great if you were given the control to set authority individually, when something like this is dropped in to your device. At least you could acquaint yourself with it before letting it loose.
And if speak with it, telling it to deactivate, it will probably tell you it can't do it, yet.. |

Another uninstaller here.
Great I thought, that's AI removed.
I didn't realise WhatsApp and Galaxy also have AI tools as well as Google.
It's taking over the world I tell thee!!

"What's the issue with Gemini?
Not my cup of tea. And came uninvited "
Why isn't it your cup of tea, it's pretty much Google search with an audio interface?
Do you think it's the beginning of skynet or something? |

I use it all the time, it's fantastic.
The fear of AI reminds me of the luddites during the industrial revolution. Lots of intense fear mongering and misunderstanding, as with any technological advance, skills will become irrelevant, while new skills become required.
Life moves on. |

I have no fear of it I can assure you so no need for assumption. I have used AI for years in other situations. I just don't want it on my phone if that's ok with you and happy for anyone to do so if it floats their booat for sure. Thanks |

I’m fully supportive of AI tooling in the right place and with the right controls. I’d be out of a job without it! But we are so desperate to have the next big thing that there doesn’t seem to be any consideration around the wider social and environmental impact these tools could have. AI needs vast amounts of data centre space- which need to be secured, maintained and temperature controlled- at what cost, both financial and environmental? And adding please and thank you to your prompts, that requires computational processing which scales up extremely quickly across the world.

You are very right. Of course it has its place and can be a great tool when used appropriately and safely. I just don't eant it coming on my phone through the back door of required software, without giving me the option not to have it and more importanly, commandeering my power botton and me trying to find out how to undo that. On the impact on society, well best we leave that as whilst some of us are fine with lots of things and can manage change relatively well, sadly it is rather too often that those less able to do so are often ignored or marginalised and that will bever sit well with me and hopefully with lots of other people |

"What got updated? Was it just Gemini or Whatsapp? Or do you have Android 16?
I heard Whatsapp is planning to let us choose a name, rather than give out our numbers "
The software update on the andriod phone. Is not a new phone, had nearly 4 years. |
