Dentist this morning, numbing bla bla bla.

I noticed this afternoon when smiling it was still numb and I couldn’t smile properly!

It felt like the end of the world and I really panicked that my face may be permanently like this..

There’s so much going on in the world and all I care about is this, I’m so shallow!!

So my question is, would this bother you this much? How do you judge your vanity?

I'm pretty unvain tbh. I'll make the effort sometimes the rest of the time I'm pretty relaxed.

Through the day I don't bother wearing make up, only really wear it if I'm going out, if I can leave the house in the morning and I've remembered to brush my hair, that is a good day for me! šŸ’Ŗ

I think We're all vain in one way or another

It's normal to be. Just some are more obvious about it than others

I don’t think a smile is vanity. A smile from someone can brighten up a day.

I think I’m kinda vain. I like to express my personality through my clothing choices.

A bit of pride doesn’t make you a bad person.

I had no feeling in one side of my nose for over a month once after getting a tooth out it's a horrible feeling, just because other people have worse problems doesn't make yours invalid and the fact that you're asking this question shows a healthy ability to self reflect so don't beat yourself up

Nothing to worry about long term OP as long as the dentures fit.

OP a little vanity is a necessary evil in the modern world. Which dentist in Reading was it?

I happen to have an appointment tomorrow morning too.

Any physical change is going to be a shock, particularly if it's your face. That bit of panic is entirely natural and not really vanity.

You'd be vain if you were still panicking about it.

I had a bells palsy (partial facial paralysis) and it was a pain in the ass. I didn't panic about what people might think, but that was partly because I was glad I wasn't having a stroke.

Admittedly the micro aggressions from some colleagues who clearly were horribly vain were kinda sad though.

Meant to say worrying that numbing stuff won't wear off isn't vanity! Everytime I go to the dentist and they use that stuff I panic its not gonna wear off.

One side of my nose was numb for what felt like months (probably like 6 weeks or so), it's not vain it's normal to worry.

Everyone likes to feel and look good but there obvs different levels for each person, I would say it starts to become vanity when you judge both you own and other people’s worth based on looks which is clearly not a good thing!!

I am incredibly vain. I'm aware that I'm weird looking and somewhat insect like but if I'm looking "hot" I will constantly check myself out.

I’m very aware of how people look at you different if you have something wrong on your face - I’ve had black eyes from football and people definitely look and you can see the recoil before they correct themselves.

I shave my head and I used to be more vain with hair; now I don’t really care. I think giving less of a fuck what people think is an age thing.

Yes it would bother me and yes I'm vain.

My mum was whatever the opposite of vain is and thought I was indulging in one of the seven deadly sins because I moisturise my legs.

It would bother me if I couldn't smile properly, so if that makes me vain, so be it.

I had bells palsy a few years ago and my mouth was really wonky for a few weeks. I was very self conscious about it & people stared when I was out.

I'm not vain as in wearing much make up of having any treatments etc.

When I go to work like today, I only wear mascara & that's because I have v pale eyelashes.

I am not really one of those beautiful types to really warrant being vain.

As someone who spends most of her life never feeling good enough/attractive enough, I can imagine its a pretty shitty experience if you aren't used to feeling insecure.

Don't beat yourself up over it

Think we can all be vain at times but like others say its a case of a good day if I've done my hair and got dressed and actually felt well enough to leave the house this year
