Brian Wilson and Sly Stone, RIP
Jump to: Newest in thread
Brian Wilson (Beach Boys) and Sly Stone (Sly and the Family Stone) both passed this week, both aged 82. 😔
Two of the greatest musical geniuses of their time, but unfortunately lived very troubled lives.
What a musical legacy though !

Very sad to read of the passing of Brian Wilson.
I have the good fortune to have been around in the 1960s and 1970s when the Beach Boys were at their peak. I still have some of their 12"L.P.s somewhere in my loft.

"I don't know much about Dly Stone but I do know Brian Wilson was visionary. He lived well considering how many drugs him pumped into himself. "
Sly was a huge influence on American music, one of the first to bring rock into black music and play with a multi racial, mixed sex band. Disco, funk, hip hop and Prince all massively influenced by Sly. |

The amount of artists who've sampled Sly and the Family Stone is testament to his influence on modern music |

Yes, probably only James Brown has been sampled more. |

Sadly the have passed on, big fan of Sly and often listen to The Beach Boys.
Heroes and Villains, as featured Fantastic Mr Fox is one my faves.
Sly appeared in Jesse Johnsons Crazy for U single and video. Jesse member of The Time worked with Prince who then worked with Larry Graham of Sly and the Family Stone.
Brian and Sly were great talents and huge influences in music. |
