Recently I've seen videos of people revealing their pregnancy to husbands, parents etc and their reactions.
Often they hand them the pregnancy test (hope they've washed it) or give them mugs, tee-shirts etc with 'best grandad/grandmother/father' on.
How would you feel about such an intimate moment being used as content to gain views and likes? |

People will film anything for content these days. Much of it fake of course and a lot of it very cringy.
Life should be more than just seeking likes and shares.
*like and share (or just give a ) if you agree.......😉 |

Some of the reactions seem genuine (I can't believe mum and dad are that good at acting). Some you can see are staged.

It seems the way of the world at the moment, most of peoples lives are broadcast for the enjoyment of others and themselves. For me I am a private person anyway so I would never have done it or want it done to me

There were rain forest tribes who thought that photographs had taken their soul and were terrified of the camera.
My equivalent of that is that I don't want my every moment pictured or recorded and put on the internet or even held on someone's phone.
Imagine the dilemmas caused when pictures of your child exist on the internet with the ex that battered them or cheated on them .... I shudder.
BUT .... I accept that filming and posting every microcosm of life is 'normal' for younger generations |

That's a big no for me! Such an intimate moment should be private. Though I doubt I'd be with someone who was more concerned about plastering our private life all over social media for validation, than my feelings about that. |

I love these videos! And the ones where the dad comes home from being deployed and ones where babies get glasses or hearing aids for the first time.
🥲
I actually scroll on Reddits r/mademesmile just so I can watch em and get all the feels.
I don't care if some of them are scripted. So are all my favourite movies! |

It certainly is. I was recently at a major tourist attraction. Lots of people were there just for 'content creation'.
The tourist attraction was the backdrop rather than the main feature. |

In the last year I've blocked at least 30 different FB profiles that kept popping up on my feed with these to types of videos.
If they were even halfway believable I wouldn't mind but the fake plane cabins, fake courtrooms, fake homes and fake families are just too fake for me.
The only ones I've ever been able to watch and fully believe are when a wild animal returns to greet the person who looked after them when they were young.
The most famous being Christian the lion who was bought by 2 guys in Harrods and released into the wild by George Adams when he became too big for their London apartment. |

Do you think privacy is a relatively new concept?
Throughout much of history only very wealthy people could afford to conduct some of their lives in private. |

Talking of creating content, going to gigs now is a nightmare. People seem to film the gig on their phone instead of watching the band. Some seem desperate to show they have wonderful life instead of appreciating the moment. |

People must enjoy them or they wouldn't be made.
I've seen babies getting glasses and colourblind people getting glasses that let them see colour. |

I've seen quite a few of these reveal videos recently showing someone, usually a mother in law or sister ruining the moment and causing chaos.
The reveal is bad enough but are we genuinely supposed to believe that someone is going to show an actual family row on social media unless they were looking for likes and views? |

People are making it about themselves rather than the gig |

No, I don't think it's a new concept, but the idea of leveraging someone else's privacy to gain your own popularity has grown exponentially with social media. Posting a picture to celebrate an occasion (as you might have taken a picture, got it developed and kept it in your purse to show everyone back pre social media) is one thing. But inviting the entire world to witness intimate moments - simply to garner likes and popularity - is over stepping a boundary for me. |

I think I can believe it. There's a lot of 'voyeur' television about I think this is an extension of it |

There's a big difference, I agree |

It's tge way life is now. All about "look at me ".
Personally find it totally pathetic but things change.
Everything is about the likes and attention these days.
Even a lot of the poor me posts on here are the same. |

"I wouldn't thank my kids for telling me in this way. Doesn't sit right with me at all.
I keep scrolling when that rubbish pops up on my social media. Who actually enjoys watching that and why? "
It's easy to be drawn in. The line between drama and reality has been blurred I think. It can be difficult to remind yourself that the people in these videos aren't actors in the sense that they don't hold an Equity card |

There's an FF couple on FB who had IVF to get a baby and were expecting triplets. They upload massive amounts of videos and stuff, including their Amazon wishlist list. They claim to have been paid £5K by FB in one month. Once an account gets a certain amount of followers they start getting paid for likes and views .. |
