I was having a conversation with a mate. Thankfully this is not something I've had to deal with. But got me thinking. I wouldn't even know where to begin. If you were made homeless tomorrow. What would you do? Where would you go? |

When my first wife kicked me out. I was homeless. Slept in my work van or got a b&b lucky it was summer. By winter I was in rented acomedation. But for men with no children it is easy to become homeless. As there is very little support. |

Ive been so lucky in life with family and friends. Things have come to a head before and I lived withbfamily in a cupboard, the matress curving up on one side because it wouldnt even fit in the space I had.
But I never felt homeless because I've always had support. |

Been there, not easy. Made a choice that seemed like a good idea at the time but wasn't sustainable long term.
Thankfully only lasted 6 months. Not something I'd ever want to experience again. |

To my dad's otherwise one of our children's houses. I have three friends who I can confidently say would give me short term accomodation too. Once those options were exhausted I'd be on the street because I would be very low on the list for housing. I do know of a very good charity that would feed me at leat once a day and help in other ways too |

"Wetherspoons
I think some offer accommodation but what a great idea, but sadly I believe you have to pay.
Perhaps Tim would like to offer rooms for the homeless FOC !
"
I love my local ( one of the nicer ones ) I'd buy a 1.75 refillable tea and stay all day -
I just have to work out the night time |

If you are drinking all that tea make sure it’s somewhere you can have a wee |

Lots of us are a lot closer to it than we think sadly. I'd have to move back with my mum and dad. Now that was hard enough when I was a teenager can't even imagine how hard it would be now. Prob wouldn't stop me playing though as they're both fast asleep by 9 and deaf lol. |

Currently homeless now since late feb! Sleeping in the car atm when i can sleep! You adapt and overcome! Take everyday as it comes.
Either i sit and feel sorry for myself or i at least do 1 productive thing a day. Its not the size off the steps you take its the direction and aslong as its forward i know ama make it through.
Honestly never thought it could happen but guess life as funny ways to teach you lessons.

I'm facing being homeless in approx 3wks. I am solely relying on my local county council giving us a house...myself & my 2 kids.
I have been knocking down their door for 2yrs as my situation is unique & dire. I am divorced, have stage IV incurable cancer, cannot get a mortgage & dont have the money to buy a house outright.
We are living in my sisters home but she & her family are returning from abroad in early Aug. It scares the bejaysus out of me every day. I cannot even think where we will go if I dont get a house. I started on chemo tablets a few weeks ago as my cancer is growing. |

Many years ago, I spent a couple of months in a friend's spare room after a divorce.
It took that long to find a private rental as the waiting list for council property for a single guy was over 12 months

I had this last year. Was in a shared house and we all got evicted as the landlord 'wanted to turn the property back into a family home'. Council put me in a hotel then a B&B for 8 months, that... Was an experience. Finally got my own place in January, and now slowly but surely building my life back up from a few bin bags.
That was the worst part for me... 50 years old, and all I had to show for it was a few fucking bin bags of stuff.

I went through this a few years back. I booked into a cheap hotel for a few nights, then sofa surfed for a couple of weeks, staying with friends. I own an old motorhome and lived in that one December, moving into my current home 3 days before Xmas.
It was horrendous not having a base. |

Lucky to have family and friends who I know would support me (depending on why I’d become homeless I guess). I think trying to find a refuge or shelter would be first point of call though?
I have met some people who truly have nobody. For parts of my life when I had fall outs with members of family I felt as if I was all alone. Now a little older I look back and feel ashamed that I thought that, over fall outs which weren’t so big, and I was not appreciative of my family. I have met some people who truly have zero people in their life and have literally not a single person to turn to for help. It is heartbreaking. |

Since retiring 6 years ago I've been working in this area full time and I've seen a massive change in the way councils deal with homeless applications.
At one time we could take someone into our hostel and be pretty sure that they would be offered a council place within 2 years. Now our move on agreements with councils and housing associations are virtually worthless, if they still exist at all.
