Did Wales Invent the Witch Hat?

Cardiff

not saying we definitely invented the witch’s hat…

…but have you ever seen a traditional Welsh lady in full gear?

Pointy black hat? Check.

Wool skirt and apron? Check.

Selling ale with a broomstick sign? Yes !

Apparently, the classic “witch” look might’ve been inspired by our own foremothers. Add in a touch of charm-writing, herb-healing and neighbourly cursing — and you’ve got yourself a very Welsh witch.

No burnings, few trials, just vibes.

Why do you think Wales dodged the witch hunts?

La la land

My Welsh hat was not pointy. Though to be fair they did confuse the French who though women were soldiers.

In the main from what I've read, we didn't have witch trials as we were a superstitious lot. Plus us rural country bumpkins still used as my grandparents called them white witches. Add to that we used pagan symbols in the church e.g. the green man it's not surprising we just didn't get our religious knickers in a twist, about women having old knowledge.
