to my old mattress. Any recommendations? Obviously I will try it first but like a good quality one that is quite firm overall but comfortable on the top. I remember last time I changed it was a nightmare trying to find something I like. In the end went with one of those with mattress pilow on top. Definately don't like waterbed or pure foam ones. |

Definitely don't feel that way. A quality mattress is so important given the time spent on one!! |

Tbf I do think that a good one is important. As you say, we spent lots of time on thm. Not to mention all the action they endure day after day from multiple bodies ( just joking ) |

Deleted in error.
My husband died in 2013 and he bought our mattress years before that. I have no idea what he paid but it was obviously an excellent choice as I'm still really happy with it all these years later. |

How was your sleep? (It's not an interrogation, just curious!). |

I have just purchased a new mattress and spent a lot more than I originally planned on it. I've had it for a month now and am sleeping so much better than I did so I think it was money well spent. I tested loads out in the shop, including bouncing up and down on them much to the amusement of the shop staff. |

I researched mattresses before I bought mine 6 years ago. I wanted a Silent night one but it was out of stock in Queen size, so I bought a Slumberland instead. Normal price at time was £250. It is a good mattress and has lasted very well. Emma is apparently a very good make.
I used to have memory foam but I found it makes hot & sweaty and also ended up with an indentation in it.
Also you need to decide what firmness you would like too .. |

I did not feel supported ss if I was going to fall off something even in the middle of it. Not slept good. As I said, not for me. |

Well to put some ideas in.. the ones I've been looking at are Otty hybrid original, Panda hybrid bamboo, Origin Hybrid Pro (but it's very heavy and very deep).
The Panda seems best all round but really don't want to go with a roll up. |

I previously had a somnus no turn. Best I’ve ever slept on but their mattresses all contain wool so when I needed a new one I couldn’t do that again. I now have a sealy posturpedic. It is incredibly comfortable, though not as comfortable as the previous one. The somnus is incredibly heavy too which can be a bugger for lifting to get sheet suspenders on |

I got a memory foam mattress and it's comfortable but it was expensive. I was thinking of getting a premier inn mattress ( obviously not from the hotel chain ) but those who provide them. I've never had a bad night's sleep in their beds, but I think they are all around £400-£800 depending on size |

Some of the good mattresses that are recommended cost way more than that so if is a good one is worth considering. I think it costs £600 |

My mistake, just checked and they do. I got it while back when they had a 40% of or something and was just £10, now over £200 |

I recommend a Premier inn mattress
To include:
Temperature regulating sleep surface keeps you cool
Edge to edge support for a larger sleep area
Energy-giving gel layer supports free movement
Ultra comfy pillowtop layer
About 600 quid, well worth it and better then the rival offering from travelodge imo

I'd buy the one I have now but they don't make them any more. I've had h-ypnos wool - cashmere, which was supposed to be temp regulating but it was just hot.
I've tried Sealy but they have a hard board around them that dig in when you get out. There was Millie Premier 2000 ortho but again a roll up, and a cheaper Millie Gel 1000 but just wasn't sure, both med/firm but comfy.
It'd be good to hear what you go for as it's tiring looking around. I'm near basing my decision on this..

Funnily enough MB my new mattress arrives next week…. Took me ages to decide but now I have one of the hybrid ones coming, medium firm and it was so comfy in the shop I went back twice just to check. Not cheap but hopefully worth every penny |

Thanks, actually the sealy one is one I like so far as it does not cave in at tbe edges. But is the posturepedic one with the matress pillow on top which whilst it is a firm mattress it also makes it comfortable on top. It is not a cheap mattress though. I Will be cheching out a few more before decission. |

Invested in a simba matress at the beginning of the year. I can't dsult it for comfort, particularly on the shoulder hip joints. However... I didn't think it through properly. As a heavy person once you embed your body into the memory foam trying to roll over to other side of the bed is like bumping up the curb out if a dip. It's a tad awkward and annoying. I'm talking my husband into changing again. |

Not from the weight as I am not that heavy but don't like that soft foam feeling. Don't feel supported. Different for everyone I suppose |

Have a look at the Resilience 2 mattress from John Ryan. This if from their site
"Our Resilience 2 mattress is designed for heavier people that require extra support due to their bodyweight. This bariatric mattress has firm and resilient core topped with softer comfort layers to cushion and support." |

Depends on budget. I’m a bit of a mattress connoisseur; Otty are memory foam and springs, they are very comfy and good at temperature control. Simba on the other hand, same concept but just done better. Top of the range, Sense8 although they may not have an actual mattress, but they have some great stuff |

As someone who was involved in Bed Manufacture before I retired , I would make just one comment ,a lot of cheap imported mattresses sold on line , do not comply with UK fire regs and are downright dangerous.

I am with you, don't like yhe foam memory ones. Have a look up the thread if anything grabs you. The one I am currently considering costs more so myself hoping could find something cheaper but as good. I was told choosing a matyress is a minefield as lots are same but give them diffrent names just so they can charge more etc |

I stick with Harrington and Abbott but it's not easy as lots off options think the one in my room is a medium for a devan but now on a slated basis so a bit softer witch I like. Should last 10 to 15 years. |

There is difference in memory foam and foam in general. I'm no expert but memory foam originally came from Tempur, they have changed (not as hot or sinky apparently) with brands copying it. Foam is just that, it comes in different grades for different purposes. Some have latex foam.. which I don't understand..
I've had a foam mattress for a good 9-10yrs, it's been cool, only just started feeling lumpy, the sides haven't given, the top is washable, being honest I am half put off by springs now, but it does mean getting the right foam. |

I used to have frequent back pain to an long standing injury point- bought one of the Emma mattresses (about £600 i think) only had a few issues since and those i can trace to over stretching, lifting too much etc which the quack warned me would aggravate my back injury..so my own bloody fault. A great mattress is a great investment! (although not sure i'd quite invest the £3.5k on the posh one i tried at the bed shop although it was very, very comfy) |
