I am getting close to 60 and have no tattoos or piercings of any kind. I have recently felt the urge to get a tattoo and both my wife and I are considering getting one done, but can't decide what to have. Has anyone any suggestions on a good first (and probably only) tattoo would be for us, and location on body?? |

Dont get one like my first one in 1975. Its a Gladiator on my upper arm with a sword between his legs. But the comedian of a Tattooist put a ring round the end. When I wear a T shirt it looks like a pair of legs with a giant Dick between them, |

"Ye have waited so long to do it I'd recommend something small , meaningful and placed somewhere that can be easily covered "
That is very close to the sort of thing we are thinking, just really hard to make a final decision. We don't want to be bland, but equally don't want to look like a pair of twats lol |

Just an idea..
Go to a decent artist one that does portrait work..get one of your wife she can get one of you. .I must make it clear find someone that is skilled in doing portraits... I've seen a good few disasters over the years..😸 |

"Is there an injoke or something between your wife that could make a tattoo?
An example is friends if ours have 20p piece tattoos due to an injoke on how they say "love you""
This is a good shout and something definitely worth considering. We have a few in jokes and things we both say. I will talk to her about this one. Thank you. |

"Got to say, unless you deep down know this is something you want on show for life, then you haven’t found it yet. "
The thing is up until recently getting a tattoo was never on my radar but for some reason I suddenly find myself thinking about it. My Mrs has always had it in the back of her mind. And being the age I am I'm less bothered about it being for life as it's a lot shorter than if I had had it done in my 20s haha. |

Do your research find a recommended artist and book a consultation they will help you decide. Your looking between £60 and £80 an hour with a decent artist but they will do bit cheaper for day sittings. Good luck dont rush into it. |

Do make sure you shop around. If you know folks with good looking tattoos ask them for reccomendations.
When you decide on a piece and pick a place, talk things through with the artist. Any tattooist worth their salt will be patient and work with you to give you what you want. |

We are also in a similar situation, both nearly 60 neither of us has any tattoos, mainly because I have never seen a design I would want for the rest of my life and thought I would never bother, but our eldest child was killed in January, he had lots of well thought out and meaningful tattoos so the wife wants to get some Sweet pea flowers done as a tribute, as that is what she called him when he was younger; she isn’t wanting to go on this journey alone and wants me to get one; I have seen many tattoos I would like and have even found the tattooist I want to use, but I am now feeling a little obliged to have one but still unsure. I also did quite a few years in the Navy and have seen some truly horrific tattoos, I managed not to get one although came close a few times but never quite made it into the chair.
Good luck with your decision and wish me luck with mine lol. |

My (Blat M) first tattoo at the age of 56 was part of a matching pair. The same artist had to do both. It marks a tragic episode in our family, but a look forward not backward. I have already booked a second artist for something more personal to me. Both are custom designs, both artists picked for their particular style. |

Best advice I can give you is to find an artist style you like before getting a piece, not all artists have the same style so once you do know roughly what you want, find someone who enjoys doing that type of tattoo work. Xx |

Do a lot of research about your local tattooists. Ask freinds and family about who they would recommend and have a look at theirs to see if you like the artistry of what they have. Don't go too big for your first and also try to steer clear of areas which would be super sensitive to a vibrating needle! Lastly, get something which has a proper meaning to you both. But I don't generally go for names or faces.....you never know what the future holds 🤷 |

"Where did you have it? Was it a planned tattoo or a out of their catalogue one, what did you go for? I am spoilt for choice with options I could go for but liking an 'Owl' design I have seen."
Both are on my inside forearms. The first was a design I had that I wanted, and was done in Lincoln. The second one was done by a tattooist who is also an artist and is based on one of her art pieces that I really like, I travelled to West Yorkshire for that one. |

I will probably go for my back or shoulders where I won’t see it unless I look in the mirror, otherwise I will want to be balance lol |

Maybe that's why I got my second so soon, to balance up (although it's wider than the first so it's not completely balanced). |

I will probably just go for one on one side, to match my mental state, pretty unbalanced lol |
