Aging , who’s worried and why
Jump to: Newest in thread
God yes, only started feeling comfortable in myself over the last 5 years and now definitely starting to see the signs of aging.
Getting old scares me and aging depresses me. But I refuse to have work done in an attempt to stay young looking.
Wished I had had more body confidence in my younger days |

Nope... nothing I can do to stop it... I've tried bathing in the blood of virgins*.. that was fucking useless.. and was a nightmare getting the bath clean after...
*..of course they may have not actually been virgin's..😉 |

Ageing in terms of other peoples perception? No.
Ageing in terms of running out of time to achieve everything I want to in life, yes!
Ageing in terms of eventual death, no. Could get hit by a meteorite tomorrow |

Kind of. I know a day will come when I won't be able do all of the things I like to do and that makes me sad, but do all I can to hopefully mean that day is some way off.
And also hopefully you just find other hobbies to take their place? I am looking forward to having more time for myself when I can retire! |

No I'm not worried but o am aware that I need to maintain fitness, flexibility and balance. To that end I try and sit on the sofa eating cake as frequently as possible .
Seriously I think that unless you commit to remaining active your late 60s onwards will mark a decline so as long as I'm able I'll keep exercising.
As far as looks are concerned being groomed, well dressed and keeping fairly current with clothes and hair are important to me but unless it become cheap and pain free I won't have work done |

Not in the least bit worried about ageing because, I'm in a very contented place having had a life of reasonably high achievement, still enjoying the fruits of my labours, reasonably well enough travelled, and had all the varied intimate encounters that most guys having a mid life crisis can only fantasise about without me ever once having had to pay at the door so to speak. At 61 it does help boost the confidence though when I take my Iceland senior citizens discount card to get my discount on a Tuesday, and the check out operator queries my age. I have wondered about using my Iceland card as a chat up line to pull on here by inviting some lady to meet me for a social in Iceland car park, then she could use my card to get 10% off her shopping, and I might just get a result. So ageing may have some advantages. |

Not really, no. In part because I've hopefully got a fair few years to go.
It's also because I think what a blessing it will be to reach an age where I am aging. The things I'll have seen and experienced. I really hope I reach my fifties/sixties and able to age. In good health ideally. |

I have a love / hate relationship with ageing!
I love that with my age and experience I am more confident and aware than I have ever been before yet the hate side is that I am definitely noticing the changes that age brings, whether that is thinning and greyer hair or being ‘seen as old’
I mentally feel much younger but get put in my place when I talk to much more youthful colleagues lol |

I am scared of ageing but not being healthy and/or fit wien it happens.
My mum had a friend for 30+ years. She is 82. If she tells you she is 62, you believe her. She has mever been in hospital, never taken a medicine apart from cold or pain medicines, she drives, carries her shopping, goes up and down stairs, etc.
I want to be like that. Which is why I pulled up my big girl oants and am taking every possible step to make sure I get to be like that. |

Best shape of your life, eh? Evidence needed to verify that |

"Not worried as such, more like, fuck I'm getting older, need to do all the things before I'm too old to do all the things..."
Thankfully from this lifestyle point of view I managed to tick nearly all of my boxes and there were a good few.
Some of them I would not be able to tick today. |

The worst part of getting old is losing people.
I'm 61. Lost my partner in the pandemic 2020. Watched my dad decline with dementia and go out to heart failure. After 4 years on my own I started to get quite poorly and had a painful groin so went to see the doc, obviously they had to examine me and asked if I was sexually active. I laughed.
Anyway. I had an awful year with my health. The groin thing turned out to be epididimitis, easily treated with apparently hallucegenic antibiotics. One thing led to another and mid year I ended up having a gut op. When I woke up I wished that I hadn't. Cue a post op infection and much bleeding.
Anyway. Doing this, after a lifetime of vanilla and playing by the book is a bucket list item. And boy do I feel better for it. I've now got a regular fwb, been to clubs, met nice people, got a whole new lease of life and have even started to lose weight.

"I prefer aging, the alternative is just rubbish"
The gods envy us. They envy us because we’re mortal, because any moment may be our last. Everything is more beautiful because we’re doomed. You will never be lovelier than you are now. We will never be here again.

Not bothered by it. People are often surprised when they find out how old I am; they think I'm a lot younger.
I'm still working and not planning on stopping anytime soon - though my body might have different ideas. Some cardio issues in October last year needed an emergency operation. 😲 |

Getting old doesn't bother me. But when I turned 52 I realised there are more years behind me than ahead. The acutely moment you die does play on my mind but that could be because I lost my mum a couple years ago.
For me it's very important not to waste a single day being unhappy because life 60/70 or even 100 years is not long. |

Worried is too strong a word, but there elements of the aging process that I'm not overjoyed about. My back doesn't always behave and it affects my work. I really don't want to do any other sort of job because I love the one I have.

Went for a coffee with a friend of mine today who's in his eighties and is suffering with cancer causing pain and mobility problems. Fortunately he's led a full and active life and has achieved or done pretty much most of what he wanted to, so he's content thankfully. Much discussion about making sure you don't waste time and do your best to go where you want to and do what you want to within other constraints such as health, relationships and finances.
Upshot - Carpe diem.. |

The way things are going I'm worried about receiving a viable pension by the time I retire but health-wise not too worried. I drink and smoke like a trooper but I'd rather enjoy my time while it exists tbh |

I am not looking forward to becoming old and losing my youth. I don't have much money or great genes, so it isn't going to be pretty. But I do feel very fortunate and I know it is a blessing that I get to age. I'm also terrified of the other impacts of aging; losing mobility, being more prone to illness etc but I suppose that might not until much later in life. |

My mother's memory is starting to go and I cared for my grandmother when her memory went and the first thing that was affected is the social rules and niceties. This scares me because in all honesty I can be a bitch in my own mind and the thought of that getting out into the world terrifies me a little.
Until then, I'm loving my life |

"Is aging a worry for you ? Why are you worrying about it "
A worry ? No, not really.
It's just a reminder that at my age I'm now on the final approach to the last landing. Probably in a holding pattern over the airport, watching a few others I know touchdown, clearing the way for me.

Yes I'm a spitting image of my old man.. He is by far ugly.. I'm heading down the very same route. Although I've a heart of gold and would help anyone before myself but came I've come to realise'm not boyfriend material.. hence why i just let my hair down an dress up every now an then to help feel attractive and wanted. Although again. I still struggle to make friends. |

I thought I was doing ok until yesterday.
I went to take a routine construction H&S test:these are carried out under controlled conditions and on arrival the young receptionist asked me to put everything in my pockets into a locker.
“ can you switch your phone off please”
“ it’s on silent “ I respond.
“No it needs to be off , I CAN HELP YOU with that “ 😡
She’s off her chair and standing next to me in a blink.
“ It’s ok I think I can manage to switch my phone off” I retort , and promptly swipe the Emergency Services button.
Oh the look of pity 😂 |

It does not worry me in the slightest.
probably due to surviving numerous injuries while Sidecar Racing (passenger)
the worst ones being a broken back in 84
The one that finished me off was in 86 when my best mate the driver was lost at Cadwel Park and I suffered a blood clot on the brain.
Well I say finished but once fit enough I had another go in 93, but it wasn't the same without my mate. |

Not in an appearance sense, well, I do look at my wrinkles and feel like sighing, but more in a worried for my kids way. Particularly my youngest.
I want them to live a good life, untouched by the ugliness of the world and to be safe, happy and secure. |

My main concern is that my foreskin will start to sag and that, as it becomes increasingly elongated, it will cause a flapping sound to emanate from between my legs that repels the caucus of women actually interested in having sex with me. |

Every day I'm a day closer to being a crazy cat lady. That terrifies me.
how many cats counts towards the title of crazy cat lady xx"
Hmm that's a good question! I currently have 2 and then there's not our cat who just thinks he lives with us...I reckon i can attract a few more before claiming the title? |
