I'm about the same. My living room looks like a library. At least we're keeping Waterstones going. Long live the bookshop |

"Nineteen Eighy-Four. Just started it and it's as intense as I've heard about. A really good read so far."
It really is a genuine classic. It changes the way you look at the world. Of course, now so much is derivative of it, but it retains its power. |

I've read this so many times over the years. It gets more and more insightful as I get older and so the world as it is.
Read Fahrenheit 451 after! |

Having read a bit about George Orwell's background, it's easy to see how he came up with it. I've heard of parallels made between the book and now so looking forward to seeing what those could potentially be. |

I'm still not reading as much as I'd like to but I have gone for more classic titles to see what would interest me. Thanks for the recommendation! |

I’ve held off reading Onyx Storm as I don’t like getting to the end of a series knowing there are more books still being written. I’ve then started the Zodiac Academy series, which I couldn’t put down and finished the final book in the main series yesterday and started on the Sins of the Zodiac today.

Dune books. Wow. Heavy read those. I love Frank Herbert but his books were so in depth. Especially the universe he created. It reminded me of Tolkien's works. |

Got about a dozen on the go at the moment. Various genres, depends how I feel in the moment. Right this moment, it's "Kafka on the shore" by Murakami, earlier today the graphic novel "Hellblazer Dead in America", yesterday finished "Monday starts on Saturday" by the Strugatsky brothers. When we get to bed I might have a dip into "The Erotic Review Bedside Companion" short stories collection.
Between us we have a couple of thousand books lying around our houses, I probably read fifty or so a year plus a few hundred comics and magazines. My work also involves using a lot of reference texts. |

Very heavy going but worth the perseverance! Definitely reminiscent of Tolkien’s world building and Herbert must have used as many words to describe sand as Tolkien did to describe… well everything 😂 |

I just finished Blood & betrayals which was quite disappointing. Only 24 books so far this year and it’s been a struggle finding 5 star reads. But there are a few amazing releases still to come this year so I’m hopeful.
Only 5 star for me so far has been Of Empires and Dusk by Ryan Cahill. |

Still only half way through Fevre Dream by George R.R Martin. I got side tracked by other things and haven't picked it up for a month or so. I do love a gothic vampire novel though and was enjoying it. |

Haha absolutely he did. Makes you wonder what went through their minds to write such books

It's brutal and philosophical and stays with you a long time. I've read it twice and listened to it several times. Always thought provoking.
There was a sequel released a few years ago by the brilliant author Sandra Newman called Julia. It looks at the same events from Julia's point of view. I was sceptical, but it's wonderful. Well worth a read. |

"Derek Jarman, 'Smiling in slow motion',
lovely, tragic, happy and sad."
I never knew he wrote books.
If I'm honest, I can't say I love his films (except War Requiem), but they were always intriguing and he seemed such a thoughtful, genuine man.
This is going straight on my wishlist - thanks for posting. |

"Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. 3rd time reading it now"
What a book!! I think I might be due a re-read. Many books set up a moral or philosophical conundrum, but then kop out. This drops you right into the middle of one and sees it through without flinching. Beautiful writing by Ishiguro. |

I usually read a fiction and a non-fiction
For fiction, I realised that I haven't read a single Tamil language book since I left school. So picked a popular historical fiction in Tamil.
For non-fiction, I am reading Philosophy of Mind by Jaworski. |

If you like vampire books have you seen Jay Kristoff - Empire of the Vampire. I'd say possibly more fantasy than gothic but I enjoyed it. The 2nd book of the trilogy not long out. |

Working my way through a reread of the Stronghold series by Golden Angel, I’m on 5 of 9. Then I’ve got her Masters of Marquis series (another 9) queued up.
Non-fiction current read is Borderlines, a History of Europe in 29 Borders by Lewis Baston. |

Seems like lots of people on here like to read a fiction and a non-fiction concurrently. I'm sort of doing that. My non-fiction at the moment is "Milton and the English Revolution" by Christopher Hill, but at the same time I'm listening to Dickens's David Copperfield on Audible - a book I loved maybe 20 years ago and reconnecting to it via a wonderful reading by Martin Jarvis, who brings the colourful characters to life so beautifully.
Not sure I'm up to reading two books at a time, but one book and one audio book works nicely. |
