I haven't played in years.
I still have a couple of grand in Tyranids stored on top of the fridge though 💜 |

I cant quite get my head into actually playing, painting can be quite theraputic but because i dont need an army its random and not always WH. Read some of the books and subscribed to WHtv as i find the lore and world building quite interesting.
I wonder if there are so few here or they arent admitting it. These days its almost trendy! |

Tbh I have a full really nicely painted and mech army but havent used it in a couple of years at least as 40k sucks these days imho
Me and some mates play a lot of the older out of print games. Currently doing a Mordheim campaign |

Oh yeah. The thing is for years if you did it you were some sort of pariah. I have played since primary school so I went through all the abuse for it.
Remember being in GW as a kid and getting chavs run past screaming wizards and gaylords and any other such inventive names |

Not really sure I 'play' WH theses days, but still collect, have since I was a pre-teen. Got a soft spot for Blood Bowl and Necromunda. |
Reply privately (closed, thread got too big)
I collect Gloomspite Gitz and royally piss my husband off by covering them in glitter, fairy dust, and mushrooms and painting them bright colours. They break out at night and harass the cats.
My kids and hubby all play 40k. Hubby has a repetitive strain injury from trying to paint 7,000,000 tyranids.
We have a partially painted cursed city boxed set, and recently bought Skaventide but haven’t opened it yet. |

Same as D&D I could never get into it because of my dyslexia, the mountain of information wouldn't quite stay in my head.
Plus my zero talent for painting anything never mind miniatures 😂 |

I am really enjoying learning saga and it’s a nice change from space morons Vikings look mega about to build another warband of wild Irish men next I think
The game is fast quite simple abit warhammer 40K esq that it’s built around a hero
I just don’t overly enjoy 10th 40K so looked into other games more for a change up. Boltaction is by far the best fun currently for a game system I find.
Plus saga / boltaction is like fraction of price. I bout Victrix Viking models (60 in a pack ) war and at 6 points game has around 45 models Cost was 36 pounds lol
Imagine 60 infantry in 40K you’d be selling your kidney |

Boltaction is ww2 it’s great fast fun. Company was setup by ex warhammer game developers many years ago for rules.
Saga is well just a simple chunky dark age / age of antiquity game system. Built around skirmish bends but quite a good size 40-60 models each player if you okay at 6 points |

Victrix ltd sell awesome bags of minis for use in saga or other period gaming.
Depending what age setting you want to play in. I started with age of Vikings (has 12 factions to pick from ). Look up dark ages for a selection of factions or a company called gripping beast |

So what do gamers think about perhaps arranging something around either Nottingham warhammer world (could book out a few tables and play doubles games low points so can rotate around abit ?
Or could do firestorm in Cardiff and book out a few tables. You can pklay there till like 8pm in week days |
Reply privately (closed, thread got too big)
Nottingham is a lot more convenient for me, but I’m out of touch with the game so would maybe just be there for a bit of a social or another type of gaming nearby if possible |

I've never been into the game itself, but I do enjoy the lore of 40K. Due to playing a lot of Dawn of War, I developed a bit of love for Blood Angels and Blood Ravens.
Used to paint Airfix kits, but never got into GW, as it was (and still is) an expensive hobby lol. I don't paint anymore, but I dabble with LEGO.
Currently building some 40K Blood Angels units out of LEGO (mostly GoBricks, a cheaper alternative), using instructions I bought on Rebrickable.
They're not huge, but a good size.
I have a Blood Angels Brutalis Dreadnought completed. Working on gathering parts for a Predator Tank and Raider Pattern Bike.
Also made a Chaos War Dog Karnivore, which looks quite good. Just need to replace the alt pieces I had to use.
Found some custom Blood Angels minifigs, with decent prints and they work well scale-wise, alongside the Dreadnought.
Tackling the arduous task of creating instructions from 3D models at the moment, although it's slow and monotonous work lol. |

I've been a tabletop wargamer most of my (long) life, so long I could probably write a history of figure-based wargaming in the UK if someone paid me to. Earlier this year I went over to the US to a gaming convention; there are so many there! |

I think the thing about WHW is that you then can only play GW games with GW models
I think a FLGS might be better. I know element games in Brum has about 8 tables could easily play some games of whatever. But honestly wherever we choose I'm in x |

Hubby is a former collector/hoarder of 40K but sticks with Heresy Heresy and Necromunda now. The 3 year edition churn, dumbed down rules/lore, false scarcity and fomo lead to him eBaying it all over the past couple of years. Made most of the money back thanks to that very same false scarcity. |

Yeah, I've been into Warhammer since I was 8 but sadly my only real interaction with it is commission work, I seldom paint for myself anymore. I'm working on updating 2nd Ed 40k but few are interested
Still, I get to paint some lovely minis - got a load of Guard on the go now. I prefer fantasy minis but 95% of what I paint is 40k. That's no surprise though!
Being reliant on public transport makes it hard to get games in. |

I did, many moons ago. Maybe even 2 decades ago.
40k sucked as a game. Not sorry. Cool to paint them but nothing 'fun' about playing that game when 2 people who know how to play it, do it so attritionally. It just gets boring. An don't come at me with "but that's why you have objectives", that's not an answer.
Fantasy was much better, more interesting characters, with easier to grasp phases/rules Mostly though, you can make a game last 4-5 turns each max, as you're forced to go for combat immediately. |

Fellow Warhammer fan here, play a lot of hersey though now as the rules have just become very converluted.
(My rant is why after a month of a new release I get an update that needs to be printed off to carry around with all ths rule books)
I started when the Dark elves were Blue skinned.
Very much find the painting side to be my mediation and way to release stress

Have sizeable Ork and SpaceWolf forces for 40k, Ogres for AoS, an old SkaveBlight Scramblers BloodBowl team and a large Ork epic force... but they are all gathering dust as I don't have the time to play anymore. Still enjoy the lore and setting though
I've thought about giving Kill Team a go, as a smaller skirmish type battle would allow me to proxy some of my existing models in a much quicker game... |
