Had a quick Google...I think it's something to do with the abuse received in the past as a ginger and they're relating it to racism?....I'm no expert and I'm sure someone will explain better shortly.... |

It's not about skin pigment it's about history and the acts that both have gone through because of their physical appearances.
I know actually researching things isn't the norm but just a simple education to show SOME contexts that are mutual between the two.

1) NON HUMAN
2) No Pain tolerance
3) Angry bitter
3) No right to exist(deemed witches gingers deemed devils blacks
4) SAME racist derogatory name spellings (Respelling the two creates the same slur)
5) both were immediate physical targets hair freckles and skin colour (brown paper bag test passing in the black culture.
6) both produce strong genetics..one drop rule

So persecution based on a physical characteristic?
Whilst in theory that might seem a logical comparison, and they might share certain common themes or mentalities, I don't think they're remotely on the same scale. |

I agree with this. Yes, gingers have suffered abuse but I don't think it's anywhere near the same scale and it's a bit of a false equivalence. |

I was trying to describe this to my daughter. How I think the biggest loss from learning using the internet is people losing that ability to do the mental gymnastics of research, pondering, making connections, figuring out which volume(s) of the encyclopedia to look up. Hopping from section to section and topic to topic. Making connections your own self.
It's a skill people are losing because google/etc do the heavy lifting now. |

I was trying to describe this to my daughter.
