Oh Sparkle you took the words right from me!
It's something I've been wondering myself. I saw someone describe themselves as middle aged yesterday too, so I think we need to understand where we all fit in the 'age scale' now.
And should we base our categorisation on birth certificate or mental age? 🤔 |

What is classed as "older" these days??"
To me anything 10 years plus or minus, at 45 I like to use phones as an example. If your first recollection is one wired to the wall and you had to spin the dials, older. If it was one you carried in your pocket, younger. |

I'm 58, and in terms of this site I would consider myself older or just old. Interms of society though I don't think that is necessarily the case, though that opinion would change depending upon which generation you asked.
The bottom point though is do you feel old or do you feel young. I definitely don't feel old, physically I can still do everything I used to when I was younger, and mentally I am much wiser. |

I think personally Ms S, if you go into a room in your home and then think to yourself, 'what the bloody hell did I come into here for' this should be the clarification of old and only done it twice today!! |

This is what ChatGPT threw back at em when asked....
"Here’s how these terms are usually interpreted:
🧒 Younger
Typical range: 18 to early 30s
Breakdown:
Late teens to early 20s – often referred to as young adults.
Mid to late 20s – still considered young, but starting to establish adult independence.
Early 30s – the upper end of what’s typically considered "younger" in dating contexts.
Use in relationships:
When someone refers to a partner or interest as “younger,” it usually implies a notable age gap—often 5–10 years or more, depending on the speaker’s own age.
👩🦳 Middle-aged
Typical range: Mid-30s to mid-50s
Breakdown:
Mid to late 30s – often the beginning of this phase, especially in social and relationship contexts.
40s – firmly middle-aged.
Early 50s – still generally included, though transitioning toward “older” in some settings.
Use in relationships:
“Middle-aged” often implies more life experience, possibly previous long-term relationships or parenting. It can also carry assumptions of stability or life reassessment (e.g., mid-life transitions).
🧓 Older
Typical range: Mid-50s and up
Breakdown:
Mid-50s to mid-60s – commonly seen as “older” in dating terms, especially if compared to someone in their 20s or 30s.
65+ – often considered “senior” or “retirement age,” but many in this group remain romantically active and socially vibrant.
Use in relationships:
“Older” is highly relative. A 40-year-old might call a 55-year-old "older," but a 70-year-old may view 55 as relatively young. The term can carry either admiration or stigma depending on context (e.g., experience vs. generation gap)." |

"I think it depends on your age. Older to me is 80 plus but when I was 20 it was 30 plus "
When I was 18/19 most of my mates were late 20s and I thought they were old then.
Crikey, some of them are pensioners now. |

Does it matter if you are healthy and having fun on here. People will have different views mainly depending on own age. I met a 74 widow recently and she was very young in attitude compared to 35 yr at same party |

"If I’m younger, they are older.
Can it be anymore simple than this?
An old man/woman is different, i would consider them to be of a retirement age.
So you're saying 65+?"
Yes.
Otherwise they are just older, not yet old. |

I don't care about being old/older/mature/a raddled old hag.
I'm me, I bear the marks of a life well lived and my personality has matured with experience. I don't want to behave like a teenager but I do want to enjoy life and do my best to achieve that |

Depends on how I feel that day.
If you only go to a pub if there's somewhere to sit and hear the person sitting next to you.
You're offered a seat a a bus stop or ona a bus - yes it's happened to me 🙄
You prefer going the cinema in the afternoon.

I’ve returned to this with an extra thought.
30 years older then someone would be concidered an ‘older’ man or woman.
If someone were around 20yrs, and with a 50 year old, that probably an older woman. Any less than that and we now call them milfs or dilfs.
That’s my input. |

To be fair, if you're in your 30s I can see why that would be cheeky AF. I mean, I've said the same to others in their 30s but it was always in a piss-taking sort of way 😆 |

Depends on the starting point of the person who messages I suppose! On my profile I have that I’m looking for connection with an older lady and for me that’s the 50 - 65 age bracket, which are arbitrary numbers really but they work as a guide. Then on the other hand I’ve been messaged by people looking for an older gent 😂😂 |
