Newcastle-under-Lyme (NOT Tyne ffs!)

Another sign that I'm not getting any younger! This arrived in the post a few days ago- rolling out to those in their 50s. Quick and easy and not too grim to do. Just thought I'd state my appreciation and encourage others to do it as it could save your life

Had mine a few weeks back.. doesn't take long for the petter to come through with the results and if you have the NHS app you'll also get a notification from ya Dr's...

If you get one, get it done, don't put it off.

Used to have it every year as was higher risk of bowel cancer due to having colitis , used to get a biopsy done with a camera test hopefully it’s less invasive method these days ha. Was able to detect pre cancer cells and have intestine removed before even got cancer so it was a blessing and good lesson never to skip them

I agreed to be part of a trial run for over 50s and did one on my 50th birthday!

"I agreed to be part of a trial run for over 50s and did one on my 50th birthday!"

I hope you treated yourself afterwards.

Due to family history, I was offered screening in my mid-20s and have them regularly, always showing no issues.

After the preparation routine, a post procedure treat has become a highlight.

Thanks for posting this !

Also any guy over 50, when you get your health check up ask for your PSA levels to be checked.

There is no national screening for prostate cancer, I know several men who had no symptoms, no history, asked for a PSA check and had cancer.

We've had these several times now. They are much easier to do than they were at first.

I remember the hysterical laughter and disbelief of my younger friends when I was telling them about it over dinner the first time.

Mostly it was shocked cries of

"The poor postman!"

6 months ago my initial test showed that I did indeed have bowel cancer.

The follow up scan at the local hospital however revealed that no signs of cancer were evident.

I have been advised to take another test in a couple of years.

I had my first one of these at the end of last year and like others have said, don’t delay it. Mine came back all ok.

My Dad died of colon cancer in his 30s. It was far less treatable back then. Any unusual change in your bowel habits, whatever your age, get it checked out.

Here, There & Everywhere

I haven't received one in the post since turning 50. But I did have one in 2019 when I had sepsis...they tested me for absolutely everything. My 36 year old niece recently had to have a bowel cancer screen. Thankfully it was negative 🫶

This as well as the OP..

Please get this done fellas, don't think it'll never happen to me or what if after I get tested the GP needs to examine me internally..

And once you've been tested and it's hopefully ok then get the other half to put it on next years calendar and have another PSA check..

You hit an age where they check allsorts... cancer, bloods, lungs, etc.... and as much as I always do it and always feel fine... there’s always a bit of nervousness waiting for a letter to drop through the door with good or bad news.....and a quiet sigh of relief when it’s good..
