Anyone here go to the Whitby Goth Weekend?
Understand it's not everyone's cup of tea. But some of us love it I'm sure.
We've been here since Thursday night and it's been great so far "
I went to the corresponding WGW last year, with my daughter. We love it.

"Goth weekend is the weekend after ! "
Indeed.
We are going to the Gothic Gathering the weekend before.
Mainly because a lot of the nights that normally happen at Whitby Goth are actually taking place on this weekend instead. |

"Never been myself,..but I've always wondered has it ever all kicked off between the trad goths and the EBM Goths 🤔...😹"
My 'goth since the 80's' sister-in-law used to help a bit running them in the early days and she laments that its lost its original 'magic' as all the trad goths (i.e. hardcore fans of the rock/post-punk music genre) in the main stopped attending. As did the more EBM loving crowd too. She opines the weekends were 'hijacked' by the Steam Punks (people who like to look like extras from Mad Max but set in Victorian times) who irreversibly turned it from a 'fun music festival piss up' into a 'dull fancy dress party'. Her words not mine!
So from what she tells me, no, there is no kicking off... cos those groups don't actually go anymore.

Well we go to both weekends in spring and winter regularly.
There are plenty of goths..
Steam punk goth is just one of many goth genres.
Similarly to rock and metal fans having lots of genres..
We are all part of the larger alternative family. So the weekends are full of my brethren and I absolutely love it..
There is a myriad of fun musical events to go to, from the big gigs at the pavilion, to the smaller ones elsewhere. From Dark Souls to the 80's night that rounds the weekend off.
It's a fab, friendly weekend, and we wouldn't miss it. |

Hey! Glad you enjoy it! Sounds like you have a blast. I was merely echoing what I'd been told and each to their own of course. I guess many get older and move on and tastes change so events evolve. But her and her friends do all very much lament enjoying the early days more but maybe that's just them.
From what you say it sounds more balanced again maybe? I've not been to Whitby since I was a kid, maybe I ought to try it again. |

When I was younger I used to believe I would be able to meet some like minded folk at a place like whitby. Turns out, Not so much though.
I'm the king of black sheep weirdness...
sigh, I got over it.
Glad its at least still going after the covid crap though.

We are going this year with friends.
Our friends go each year with their young adult children.
I came out to them late last year as a TV and they invited us to spend the weekend with them dressed.
I'm really looking forward to it (Sisters of Mercy fan from the 80's) but also terrified.
Both of being Sara in front of them & of being out in public, but what the hell! |

October I believe, which I'm glad about because my Victorian Goth kit is WARM! |

We have our Air BnB booked for October already. And our tickets for the Mission on the Saturday i think.
Then the 80’s night is a must for us too. |

I went one year dressed up in my Victorian Goth outfit and only got good vibes from everyone. Hope you enjoy yourself and have the very same experience. |

Wonderful!
Hope I do too.
I've not yet been out in 'vanilla' spaces so I'm pretty nervous. |

I had a hat with a bit of a veil that covered some of my face (not that I really needed it) so it did hide some masculine features. But thats the advantage of going to these places in which dressing up in a costume type of outfit means any accessories you wear will help you get your confidence out on the street. I saw quite a few girls that could’ve been boys dressed up but due to the makeup and clothing it did made them look more androgynous.
I really hope this will give you more confidence in the future. |

There is a lovely pub in Whitby called The Little Angel.
On the Sunday of the goth weekends we go there about 2pm for a drink.
It's an Alternative friendly pub.
If anyone wants to pop in and say hello 😁 |
