You don't have to say.
Not right now.
You could wait a sentance or two and come across less desperate.
Respect a conversation as a potential connection, with a human you intend to respect.
And quite frankly apologising before trying to compliment someone isn't a compliment.
If you have to apologise for a compliment there's probably a reason you feel awkward giving it.

It’s so rare to find it valid in saying, and there are better older sayings.
I don’t think I ever use it and pull people up on it!!

Just had a message that said something like ‘would love to chat to see if XYZ’ and I get this all the time. In this instance (because they were hot and I’m horny) I asked ‘chat about what?’ to see if they redeemed themselves. Answer? ‘Anything you want’ 🙄
