I have carefully chosen a Christmas gift for a notoriously difficult to buy for friend. It's wrapped and ready. She sent me a photo two days ago of something she's bought for herself and, you guessed it, it's the self same thing 🤦.

I know what I'm going to do but what would you do? Buy something else or give it to her anyway?

Glasgowish

Take it back to the shop and get a refund. Maybe book a spa day for you and your friend or a voucher for afternoon tea.

First of all, give yourself a pat on the back for knowing your friend so well.

Then take it back and change it for something else 😂

All over

I certainly wouldn't give as she knows I know having seeing the photo. If appropriate give to someone else or get a refund and get something that complements it or totally different.

Return it and as above, spa day or an adventure day.

Also well done for knowing them so well !

It depends what the gift is I suppose. If it's something they'll use regularly and will need more of..like perfume, bath stuff etc, carry on and gift it. If it's something which you could do without having multiples of..like a kettle or a 3 piece suit for example, I'd take it back. 😁

Sounds like you've been shopping in the middle aisle at Aldi.

Good advice everyone.

I'm going to give it to her anyway. She will be able to use it, it just took the wind out of my sails when I saw the photo. It's even the same damn colour! .

I have made her something too so it won't be her only gift.

I love Aldi. I must plan a trip.

I bet you they have kettles and three piece suits in the middle aisle

If’s perfume or makeup/skincare related I’d give it anyway, as you can never have too many of them today with the cost of it all. Scarf? Jewellery? Refund or exchange. Book? Same.

Anything else? Not sure!

A little more context because it's not a fab advice thread if the op gives the whole story in the opening post.

She is notoriously critical of gifts. Not to the persons face but behind their back. I have been on the receiving end of much 'regifting' and second hand presents (no problem with either but don't criticise others for doing the same) and heard many gifts criticised . Therefore to have actually for once hit upon something I know she wanted is a small win in a sea of losses.

Alternatively, you give it to someone else( if you think they would appreciate it)and get her something different 🤔

If its something I would use I would keep it for myself then buy her another gift. Or.... I would gift it to someone else & buy her another.

What was the gift? Just for nosey reasons
