I'm bored, so question time

What is a single bold decision you took that changed the trajectory of a significant portion of your life.
For example, cold emailing a company you want to work for, or I guess, asking some damsel out.
Regale me with your stories!! |

"I chose to have kids.
I was thinking about this in a sliding doors kinda way, last week "
Did you always know you wanted kids? Or was it something that came up along the way? I imagine you absolutely enjoy being a parent |

took a job offer that practically halved my salary overnight, but kept me in Wales (ironic now I work in Manchester!).
That decision was also the first in a line of dominoes that brought me to all you beautiful people! |

Back in Surrey, Dahlings! |
Chose to leave everything that was dear and near to me and moved 10,000 across the Atlantic 23 years ago for love.
It was a good decision and have 3 lovely children from that and realised I’ve lived most of my adult life in the UK now. Though lately I keep thinking what if I had stayed put. |

Why did you want to remain in Wales at the time?
You don't think you've have got know of fabs in the chain of tipping dominoes if you didn't take the job?
PS: I am a curious/inquisitive person, so if any of the questions are a bit too deep, please don't hesitate to decline |

Had two job offers when I was made redundant. One company I knew and had worked for the other totally new to me but slightly higher paying.
Played it safe and went with the one I knew. Was made redundant again a year later and I know the guy who got the other job and know how he has advanced since. I'm still playing catch up on where I could have been.
That was 2008 |

Interesting. Your last sentence there are a couple of fun TV shows that explore the concept of the "decision not taken", I think it's always something we wonder when we make that kind of big decisions with lots of uncertainties

I was a career woman and chose to do that, before having kids later on in life. I have quite a few adult friends without kids, so it's interesting to have a glimpse into what life could have been, if I had chosen to stay in my career.
I definitely do love the life I have with my kids |

Well damn. I think the job market it littered with these kind of experiences. I've heard from people better than me that when it comes to jobs, it's almost always best to take the risk, with either new place, new city, new skill, new people. |

touché! having a glimpse into the results of a different path you could have taken puts things into perspective I guess

Meeting a guy who explained the oil and gas business and opened doors for me.
Never looked back, its been a real adventure and a wonderful life, met some great people and some not so great.
Travelled to places I would never have thought I'd visit.
Some ok, some shit pits.
When opportunities come along you have to grab them and ride them with both hands.
Never, ever say no. |

I was in a shitty marriage of 7yrs when I logged on to AOL chat in a Transatlantic Chat room - got chatting to a bloke who lived 50miles away from me
Within 2wks we meet and we've been happily, blissfully happy for nearly 25 years

Well c'mon... its WALES!! 🏴❤️🔥
and probably not; if I'd not had taken the job, those dominoes wouldn't have fallen and I'd have no idea Fab even existed!! |

Deciding to do an apprenticeship rather than the university route. I didn't know what I wanted to do coming out of school so would've just gone to uni because it was the thing to do and I'd hate to think I'd be on a job not relevant to my degree with a tonne of student debt. |

I asked him to marry me and upended my life to make it work
I decided that what I needed while working full time and balancing children with little support that what I needed to do was retrain and got a new qualification that kickstarted my current career
I guess asking for a divorce after 20 years of marriage was another big one |

The job I was in had run its course and I was tipped off about a company looking for experienced people and that paid very well
I made a cold call, went in for a chat and was started on a salary that was paying £15k a year more than I was earning
Within six months that had increased by a further £10k
My biggest regret is that whilst having this excess cash, a lad i played football with was emigrating to Oz and he was struggling to sell his house which he'd reduced as he was desperate to sell
I considered buying it to let out and didn't
It was £80k and is worth half a mill now |

Close, watch your back! |
Started a degree over 1.5yr ago. Hard at late 40s as it is, plus all the menopausal shite added, but 2/3rds nearly nearly finished.
Someone mentioned Wales on here - that is my next dream - move to beautiful Wales in a few yrs time,
Somewhere with no or very few neighbours, surrounded by that beautiful nature. |

That was the hardest decision I've ever made in my life but possibly the best one. My life has changed for the better in so many ways since. Yes, there have been some shitty times but I have learned so much about myself and am putting what I want and need first. |
