No more for me. Certain circumstances have changed meaning I no longer require the consumption to get through the night. I do think it has affected my ability to sleep though. Barely slept last night so eyes are burning and heavy, struggling to keep them open all day yet been laid in a bed since 6pm and still unable to sleep. |

Sober 7+ years here.
Sleep is a habit and you'll get there.
If you've been boozing at night, you've been knocking yourself out, so probably lost the sleep skills you need to get a good night.
They'll come back and you'll feel better.

I only drink once a month now but my sleep has gone to hell.
Reading books is pretty much the only thing that passes the time and tires my brain out a little sooner. Average a book every two days now as takes a lot more to tire my thoughts out. |

Alcohol is a natural sedative, and does help to get to sleep. But it then disrupts your sleep pattern, reducing the time in deep sleep etc, resulting in feeling hungover tired the next morning. Someone earlier said milk helps, it does, there is research confirming that. Adding horlicks or ovaltine can help, reducing hunger overnight. I think ovaltine has more magnesium, which helps. |

"Thanks everyone. I managed to sleep from about 10 till 3 then on and off till now. I've never liked alcohol, but only way I was able to sleep"
I hope all works well for you. My understanding is that it is not sleep that happens when we have consumed alcohol but lack of conciousness due to alcohol. which is why when we 'wake up' or recover from a drink we feel fucked. |
