Okay so this wee fella has been all over my algorithm the past couple of days and seems to be going viral. My little heart sinks whenever he pops up.
For context, it is from a scene of a 2007 documentary, the Adélie penguin is shown inexplicably walking inland, away from its colony, the sea, and potential food, towards the mountains in Antarctica. He takes one final glance towards his colony before continuing his journey towards his almost certain end.
Some say in essence, the penguin embodies the shrug of existence: life goes on, the universe doesn’t care, and that’s… okay. It’s less about giving up and more about seeing the world without illusions, then deciding how, or whether, to care.
There are various explanations washing around online attempting to explain his actions and symbolise the meaning behind the meme.
Have you come across it? and how do you interpret it? 🐧🖤
