How can we discourage this disruptive practise?
Many a good story is spoilt by dozens of inconsiderate needless emoji only posts to bookmark in between constructive contributions.
How hard can it be to simply go to the last post and work back rather than disrupt the continuity for the majority of considerate readers?

I don't think the forum is set up for writing/reading fiction, and to the extent it's used for that, it'll be subordinate to the function of communicating. Yes, even in the stories and fantasies section.
There are other more suitable venues for reading erotica uninterrupted - but likely I can't name them because of forum rules. |

I think we all need to accept that the site operates according to how the members use it and as such there will be things that annoy individuals.
Also *personally* I wouldn't want to see anyone excluded from joining in (while confirming to the rules) because some others don't like how they do it. |

I too am all for encouraging joining in and I don’t mind threads l started being hijacked to a different story as long as it makes good reading.
It is an open forum but if we can encourage others to improve it is that so bad an idea. |

No it isn't but who are you wanting to improve it for? That's what I'm getting at. |

It's harder than just bookmarking with an emoji which is why many, such as myself, do it.
There's probably a litany of minor irritations on fab that bother individuals, clearly this is one of yours.

The silent majority of forum users, or the silent majority of people in one section of the forum (games, lounge, swinging chat, camping, travel, stories, and more)?
If they're silent, how do you know they're a majority?
The changes you're suggesting would be devastating for all other sections of the forum, which I believe get a lot more traffic. |

Out of 176 posts just 9 related to story postings.
All l am asking is for common sense and consideration to apply to allow for better continuity.
I have not asked the silent majority but what would you sooner read, a fluent thread or gaps of up to 30 consecutive emoji only postings |

People use the forums how they wish to use them.
If its different to how you use them, it doesnt make it wrong.
Until there is statistical data from the silent majority, it is just your personel opinion.

Ah, so by "silent majority" you mean "I want".
I would rather a forum function as a forum, even if it sacrifices one part of the forum. I imagine club postings and individual meets are a higher priority than the Stories section, on a site about swinging. As I've said before, there are plenty of places with free stories that are set up for story format, if you can't manage the compromise necessary for all the other purposes of the forum. |

Also, as someone who posts in Stories and Fantasies sometimes, every 👍 or whatever is a sign that I'm not just posting into the void.
You need to consider not just what you want, but also what it takes for someone to produce a story. It's something I do in my free time, and takes a lot of energy. I plot, draft, and edit mine. No, 👍 isn't a review in the Guardian, but it's a sign I'm not wasting my time, which encourages me to continue. |

I find bookmarking rather handy to be honest , not just to mark where you’d last got to but to find the thread by looking in threads you’d commented on . I’d also think it lets the writer know you are there .
Personally I wouldnt think it too challenging to skip past bookmarks to the next chapter . |

So, are you saying no body should make any comment or any emoji, or not continually insert whatever after each update by the OP?
Personally, I bookmark the story when I first enjoy something but then I don’t make any further interactions right through until it ends or the thread is full.
If you don’t make at least one comment then it’s difficult to remember which stories are worth following |

"I'm lost for words other than this has to be one of the most ludicrous grievances I've come across on here recently. 🤦🏻♂️"
Not that lost for words then?
Thank you for that really constructive observation. |

What's the difference between "not constructive" and "disagrees with you", please? |

Sorry, really did understand what you're saying OP.
How can an emoji be bookmarking a thread?
Surely if someone posts a response even if it is only to bookmark the thread, it shows interest.
I am not bookmarking this thread, but here's an emoji of my 🐶🐕🦮🐕🦺🐩 |

"So are we not getting the end of your story OP"
To all those who posted a different point of view, my appreciation for your thoughts.
To all those who just posted negativity - have a nice day!
PS. It does seem likely Fred! |

The thing I've learned about writing fiction is that you can't control how your readers react.
As it is with fiction, so it is with forum suggestions. (Although I think "we should change forum culture for my enjoyment of a subset of the forum" was probably inevitably going to be unpopular) |

I get that you want things to improve and I think that there could be be some improvements made, but to suggest people work their way backwards is… well, just backwards!
I mean, who reads a book from the last page to the front page? 🤷🏻♂️
I think that there should be the option/function of adding an emoji to a “chapter” posted by the thread author BUT the emoji NOT becoming a whole post by itself, that way there doesn’t end up being over 150ish emoji’s in a thread that’s limited to 176 posts.
But I’m not running the forum/website, so what would I know?
There IS a need to bookmark a reader’s place in a thread and I’m sure there’s a better solution, but currently it’s all we’ve got available. |

In all the years l have been on here l have never felt the need to use or clog up a thread with bookmarks.
Perhaps l am endowed with a special ability, although somehow l doubt it, but l find no difficulty in going to the last posting and flicking up through the various comments and other detritus to the last interesting post by the OP.
How hard can it be? |

I was enjoying your story. But if you don't want to finish it for those following it due to this personal issue with bookmarking; so be it.
Can't say I'm that fussed.
It's a bit like not being happy with a game and taking your ball home so no one gets to enjoy it.
Except the owner of the ball playing by themselves.

That does seem like a very contradictory conclusion that you have reached ?
There are several reasons, none of which l feel the need to elaborate, but caring about the actions of others is not one of them.
I plough my own furrow now as ever regardless of the negative opinions of others. |
