Another reason I am glad I always disable automatic updates. My phone is still on ios 18 (which is buggy as fuck) and will stay there.

My laptop came with macos 12, and will stay there too. I will not be forced to give apple and every single website i visit my age.

Normally I update regularly but not this time even though I have credit card in my Apple wallet, it’s just the thought of giving up to digital id..

Not know if Samsung might follow suit..

Bring back Nokia 3210.

What's the issue with confirming you are an adult?

"What's the issue with confirming you are an adult? "

I don’t think there is an issue with that. It’s how it’s being done that the op is questing.

One if the issues is this will tell every single website you visit you are older than 18. Its a way to further profile you. There is also the possibility websites could ask for ages ranges instead if just over or under 18. So websites could ask if yiur between 13-18. Or 18-25 etc. combined with all the other data your phone hands over, this will be abused.

Abused how?

In my half a century on this planet all I've ever had is the odd spam email.

No suspicious vans monitoring me outside my home. No men in long coats following me around.

If anyone really wants to study my late night Temu shopping habits then crack on. It's quite entertaining, trust me. 🤷‍♂️

By who and how? Genuinely confused.

Having a phone that's "as buggy as fuck" and less secure puts you at much greater risk of data loss than letting a website know you're older than 18 (which you'll invariably do anyway).

If you give proof of your age then there is no problem.

You are simply saying you have legal access to everything and the company won't get sued for not following government guidlines on child protection and safety.

It is hilarious that people think the gvt don't already know how old they are.

Google will let you send them a pic , so that they can agree you are over 18.

They will accept your driving licence etc ....

It's no huge conspiracy. If you don't want to give your age DONT and DONT expect to get into adult sites

Okay Sexxxxxxxxxy. Let me help.

Gvt says ..... oi companies , stop letting kids on naughty sites DO something!

( specially as the major media moguls have just lost big bucks )

So when you get an update from

a bit media company it asks for your age.

Thats it.

There was no question. It was a warning.

It's just like all the media companies are an offy now ........ no proof of age no tits.

Somewhere in Norfolk ask :)

I think it’s a good idea and should have been implemented, there is already so much that has been seen by people online that isn’t suitable for their age group and I have no issue for this to roll out to deter people who are not the right age to see the content.

I’ve done it with my driving licence and it didn’t take long at all, I’m over the age of 18 so why would I have an issue with proving it?

Age verification should have always been in place.

Somewhere dark and gloomy

What's the issue with verifying your age? You think the government cares what you do online? Give it a rest

There's not the possibility of that because that's not the law. Accessing adult content is the law, don't get carried away inventing things.

All the other data that your phone hands over is being done because you told it to do that ... that's not the law .... that's called you choosing to give companies your data or not being bothered to check.
