Researchers were investigating octopus sexual engagement and inadvertently discovered an octopus secret.
As they're typically solitary animals, they were kept in separate tanks, with a small holes between, that they might become more familiar. The male took his sperm and pushed it through the hole, whilst the female was against the hole and he manoeuvred it into her genitals, with his special organ that can taste the female.
They will mate in the dark, never seeing the mate |

"And this is where our taxes go lol "
It was American funded research and them using gloryholes was an unexpected discovery. It hasn't cost you a penny - you've lost nothing and we better understand our intelligent cousins |

Unfortunately for the lil' wet fellas, a slice of cephalopod research is done by the fishing industry for better farming. Sigh.
But yeah, there are folks all over the world doing research on em to better understand how they live and reproduce. |

Are they perhaps the closest thing to an alien life form on earth? |

"Thats fascinating Sophie. It does make you wonder about the animal kingdom"
It is fascinating. He didn't even stick his cock through the hole - he used another appendage that could taste her, that then shuffled his sperm into her vagina
He hadn't even seen her!
He would have any holes a goal, if anyone would |

Probably not, there's weirder things, but yeah they're pretty unusual.
If there was anything (other than viruses) that I'd think of as alien it'd be tardigrades. They are very strange. |

Male octopuses have one arm that is shorter than the rest (the hectocotylus) - this arm contains the reproductive organ. This arm is essentially a tongue and a penis in one.
Due to its "sensitive" nature male octopuses often keep their hectocotylus curled up to avoid injury unless attempting to mate. Also, octopuses are cannibalistic so it's rather cruel that it is the male octopus's shortest appendage |
